Default Nitrous engage question

Question,

How are all you nitrous injected guys using the system. I mean, do you engage it in 1st gear ever, above what rpm is it to late to use and exactly how much hp is a 50 shot. I have heard that it is not exactly 50, but a bit less? Lastly do you ever encounter knock after use , if so how do you handle that? All these questions are being asked because i am considering nitrous express, but leaning toward zex. Oh yea, for the zex guys at what rpm does it engage, and what kind of compitition(track, or street compitition) did it work in you favor for? I know that it only engages at open throttle.

Thank you
Megatron

you answered your own question about what RPM the zex kit engages at. It engages at WOT so RPM for hte most part is irrelevant. I have heard that you should only have it engage above 3000 RPM in general. And if you go with the kit make sure you stay away from your fuel cutoff / rev limiter.

I have a 55 shot from teh zex kit running to my 98 RS. Ive used it on the street and will be using it next week at the track. I have it setup as normal to inject at WOT however the times that I have actually used it I use it from the launch in first and most times stop after my shift into 4th. I see no need in going that fast and it gives the other guy a chance to catch back up.

If you go with the notrous express kit you may want to go with a wet setup giving it fuel as well. The zex is a dry setup and takes into account fuel pressure somehow to try to assurre the appropriate mixture of nitrous and fuel. Im happy with my setup currently.

Fuel upgrades I did to make running it as safe as I could that you may want to consider:

High flow Fuel pump
Fuel Pressure riser
SAFC
2 stages cooler NGK plugs
EGT Gauge
Air Fuel Ratio Gauge
Upgraded fuel injectors (which should go in next week)

Any other questions lemme know via PM and i can see hwat i can do to help you out. If you get the zex kit My honest suggestion is to go through ebay its a ton cheaper. My friend has a shop and i got it for 60$ cheaper new than he could get it at his cost via someone on ebay I will give you their info if you contact me. (450$ ish I think)

What he said, but I have a bit more to add.

I don't have any of the fuel mods he has. From what Zex says about the system, the "brain" adjusts everything just fine. I did go one heat range colder on the plugs.

The system works, though. Kicks your butt in first and second gear. You can still feel a difference in third but not as noticeable. I think I'm gonna get rid of it and save for a WRX!!!!

Ghomer exactly the car stock with a little cooler plug will accept the 55 shot find but I wanted to build it up to be on the safe side and also to run a little larger of a **** if I felt necessary

YOu have any 1/4 mile times? I have yet to run at the strip with the nos.

Thank you all for the info, good information=informative decisions driving wise and purchasing wise. Thank you very much, and tsfxRS i will be in touch. Quick question, have any of you encountered knock after using nitrous, and if so is a little knock ok, or not. Is a knock sensor a good idea and or J&S?

I personally dont believe I hae encountered any knock problems at all however that is one of my next purchases. Slow I dont know if ghomer has this same problem but in 3rd gear around 6200 RPM with the nitrous injecting I get a check engine light for Manifold Absolute Pressure Abuse.

Not a huge deal but annoying none the less

I've never seen any CELs with my car. No knock either. Just be sure to use 93+ octane fuel and one heat range cooler plugs.

She'll run smooth as a babys behind.

where are you injecting from exactly? how far away from the TB and is it a direct shot into the TB? That may be my issue. I shooting directly at the TB from the back of the stock airbox it has a direct line right in from about 6 inches away Maybe thats causing some pressure problems lol

Well, I have the AEM short ram and I know it says to be at least like 8 or so inches I think, but I'm honestly only about 4 away from the TB. It seems to work alright for me.
