Default When did Subaru WRC car get different headlight?

I haven't watched the last 6 WRC rallies, but when did the Subaru WRC car got new design headlights? Since the 555 thing? I just watched the Safari rally and saw different lights on the car. Just wondering.

I only noticed this last event myself... maybe it was a Safari only thing?

Here's the headlight used at Acropolis... wonder if the turn signals are just for Safari, or whether it's for the rest of the year?

i am sure that type of thing changes depending on the
rally that they're in...

safari - you need to be SEEN...
the roads are not closed...
that's why the extra lights on the mirrors.. etc...
that's why the helicopter leads the cars down
the stage... and maybe why we see
a different type of light/signal here...

very cool stuff! (*must be nice!*)

Yes, but you'd think they'd be on if they were for visibility's sake There aren't any night stages in the safari, are there? Probably that's a good thing

Guess we'll know when they run Finland whether it is just for Safari.

Maybe they messed with the bumper because of that new air scoop thing in the bumper that they use instead of the roof scoop, and the turn signals on the bumper don't work anymore

I think his co-driver dropped the donuts on the floor.

I'm pretty sure it's just a Safari thing (the lights, not the donuts! ).

If you check 2001 photos of Safari:

http://www.swrt.com/images/gallery/large/saf9.jpg

2001 Safari @ SWRT.com

You'll find that they had these headlights then as well.

In addition to lighting/visibility/local laws, another point: With just blank space instead of the turn signal, the holes would just serve as nice dust-scoops, so maybe they are blocked on purpose.

I believe those "dust-scoops" are functional.

I agree. just look at the pic in the top. the car doesn't even have the roofscoop. And If I'm not mistaken, it's common to see hood scoops blocked with some sort of duct tape on some events.

Again, last year's rally the car had a hood scoop.

According to Rally XS (pre-game show), Subaru was eliminating the hood scoop for Safari and trying a new method of ducting air into the cockpit. They felt this new method would be more effective at cooling the drivers in this scorching hot rally...

Having the resources those teems have you'd think they find a better turn signal than to relocate a fender indicator to the headlight!

Maybee the UK300 lights took to long at UPS!

maybe a local vehicle code regarding turn signals, maybe the original was too small, these rally cars runs on street, not only the SS and CS.

just a thought.

where's the Mr.Prodrive? Can you give us the answer?

Its different for the Safari because sometimes the car gets submerged so having that will prevent any water and mud entering the intake system. The little snorkel that you see on some of the stages allows the car to breathe even when submerged. Also notice that the side mirrors also contain daytime running lights to warn any incoming pedestrians that its a rally car.
