Default i need a computer whiz

so i bought this bare-bones computer online.
put it all together and i can use it but not online.
so after calling some tech people they think that my
motherboard doesnt have the driver installed.
i tried to install the driver and it tells me that my
OS is incompatible with this disc.

does anyone know what to do.

What is the brand/model of the motherboard?
What OS are you running?
I assume that since you say the computer works but not online that the onboard ethernet driver is not installed, or the port is bad. (this is assuming you are using a wired connection).

yes i am using a wired connection and that is what the tech said over the phone that i dont have an driver. i was thinking it was for the motherboard. is the ethernet driver a disc that comes with the motherboard.

the mb is an intel dual core processor
os is windows XP

somebody else told me on facebook that i need to into my bios and delete something and reboot

Intel Dual Core would be the processor. What motherboard is it? If you can find a name and model number for the motherboard, you can most likely download any necessary drivers for the motherboard onto a disc or jump drive on another computer, then run them on this one. You will want to look for (and install in this order):

1) Chipset drivers
2) Network/ethernet drivers

Once the two of those are on and installed, it should recognize every component that is soldered onto the motherboard, be it USB or ethernet or whatever. If you need any help, LMK. I work on computers for a living.

That is the chipset on the motherboard. The drivers for the chipset do not contain the ethernet driver.

Is this a brand name computer, or a generic bare bones system from newegg or some place like that?

Check the motherboard again for a brand/model, or post up a link of the computer you got and we can maybe determine the motherboard being used.

Windows XP incompatible with disc? That sounds strange, unless you're using a Mac/Linux disc or dvd disc in a cd-rom drive.

the box for the motherboard says DG41BI
i downloaded the chipset drivers and

so now i am going to attempt to install them on the new computer.

it is a barebones kit that i put together on the website. i selected each and every component

Here's the driver page for the motherboard you have.

Go into the device manager and see if it shows up in there. If it does you still need to setup your ethernet connection.

Don't listen to this idiot.SCIC.

Go to control panel,Click on system,Then Hardware then you will see device manager.Once you open that you should see network adapters plus that out and it should show what type of nic card you have in there. If it is in there click on it and see if it says it is working properly if it is go to control panel and open network connections and use the setup wizard to make a connection.

If it doesn't show up try to find the brand and download the specific driver for your nic card.If you can't get that I would just go buy a new one they don't cost that much.

Les, are you ok? This is the first post I have read of yours that you didn't go off on the OP. Your advice didn't even include pulling your head out of you ass.

i got on the device manager spot and there were yellow question marks with exclamation marks. so i clicked them and it gave me options to reload or retry the drivers. so i gave it a shot and it worked. damn i was so happy that worked.

still getting an error whenever i try and load my microsoft office 2010 discs.
