Unhappy Stupid Motorcycles

Was drivin by a local racing spot In my stock 2000 2.5 RS and got beat not horribly though by an old Honda 650cc bike it was a rolling start. But my question is what can I do to get rid of the power drop-off when I shift into 4th. You know that jerk you get in shifting though the 1st 3 gears that does not happen when shifting in to 4th. What can I do that wont break the bank?

okay, seriously - intake, catback, pulleys, powerchip = $1,200 for high 14's low 15's for sure.

Keep up with old bikes = cams, flywheel, headers, cat section combo with above = $1,600 more plus labor = $2,800 plus labor

Keep up with old bikes, skip the above and do $2,300 ludespeed stage I turbo kit with gauges etc add $250 plus labor...

This is good for low 14's - add intercooler stage II = 13.9's or better = beat most Harleys....

LOL Thanks How much would a good stainless catback system run me alone and what brands do you recommend for the exhaust and intake?

I recommend the Brullen SS exhaust because of the good T304 SS and performance. I also am partial to the GanzFlow intakes I developed.

Being careful to not "sell" I will answer it is about $540 + S&H for single 4" tip catback and $109.95 for intake if you already have a high performance filter. The Cobb intakes we sell are also very good, but are $150 more.

Don't even bother trying to keep up with any bike. The power to weight ratio is going to kill you. Even old bike's will easily get into the 12's. Waste of time....

amen... and we're talking lowend small bikes still... anyone who races a motorcycle in a car either a) have put a !@#$load of money into the car in the right places or b) is nuts out of their mind.

basically any of the newer superspots (600cc crotchrockets) are in the 10-11second range with some of the newer litrebikes clocking in just under 10. most of the other newer bikes you'll encounter are 11-12 with mainly just the fat harleys hitting high 12s low 13s. but don't count on beating harleys. theres a lot of drag harleys out there good for 10sec and faster runs

I remember when my piped and jetted Ninja 250 could run 0-90mph with the modded harleys since it was so light

Up here at 6,000 feet I can keep up with most 600cc bikes from 70-130mph, with witnesses on more than one occasion (including a Triumph Daytona 955cc who couldn't get away).

From 0-70 it is another story - I am even only till I hit second gear, then they leave me in their mirror and there is no chance to catch up once they get away

I did fail to mention that the idiot had a passenger so there was an extra 414+ lbs on the bike but the point is he was only at my front bumper when we slowed down.

here is my thing I've lost the last three races I've been in.

Plymouth Laser (w/NOS) duh he decimated me I had him for the first 65mph

A Pontiac Sunbird I did not launch it though I am still trying to find him for a rematch I can get him

Ford Probe (rolling start) tried getting him at a red light but he waited till I was going about 45 and took off once I gassed it I started pulling in. There was a car in the way.

But hey any fool can go fast in a straight line!

Sunbird? Marketing guy where I work has one - I thought it was a dog. He always talks about his "next" car, he thinks it's a dog too...are there other options?

Ford Probe? My sister has one - it's okay, but not even as fast as the newer Celica (she knows how to drive it too).

A DSM turbo with nitrous will blow you away unless you have some good mods though. Those DSM cars were fast (I had a turbo laser in 1989. It was love/hate It was fast but had so many mechanical problems, I swore I'd never get another forced induction car. )

I have had the chance to race a couple of cars/trucks 0-60 on my RM250. Mostly its the people that come out to watch some riding, and say, "its only 250cc?" It must be slow I usually tell them that it will out run thier car 0-60 without any probs. They usually are game for a run down the deserted street leading into the riding area. The only thing slowing me down is well, nothing. I top out in 5th gear( probably around 70-75 mph) in 7 seconds or so. Easily fast enough to beat most cars. But this is the down fall of my bike, its not geared to have a high top speed, its geared to get you from 0-70 in as little time as possible 70mph isn't the most comfortable speed (shakes like a bastard), but she gets there in no time. The hardest part is getting the front wheel to stay on the ground, its not used to traction Someone posted above, being able to stay with most 600cc sportbikes from 0-70, I'm sorry my friend, even the leaning condition caused from altitude won't slow down those bikes that much. I'm guessing your either shooting a 200shot, or the riders are total newbie's Cause even in the worst conditions, a 600cc does 0-60 in the mid to high 4's..

so whoever can't keep up with we call them stupid?

So me personally that can't launch in my WRX anf get beaten by the world makes the world stupid? I think it would make me narrow minded and stupid.

FYI

there are tons of cars/motocycles that are faster and even more capable drivers/riders. I always say if you can't beat them join them.

cheers

no problem...
but since I am a motorcyclist I did not like that you generalized and called motorcycles stupid (well you did not really but it seemed so) Next time give the motorcyclist the thumps up and race some old Honda with a mellon shooter

ok ok if you want to play with a motorcycle try a moped most newer 600's are capable of doing 12's out of the box so... there ya go.

Cheers

But, those 600's are now doing 11's at sea-level and low 13's at 6,000 feet - fair game for me

I know they do if you have a nice shift and push it to 10-12 k rpm... I played before with the redline and belive it or not I proved to my self that I am a big ol' chicken

If you miss a shift or not pay attention you have a good possibility not much happens but if the motorcycle miss'es a shift loses balance in 2,3 gear at 12k rpm it would limps and head everywhere... sorry i pass. If the car want it so bad they can beat me every time... My life is worth alot more than a light to light play with a car.

Cheers

Nick

PS: I have seen goofballs with R6's do a launch/clutch dump at 12k rpm at a light just for the hell of it and one of them laid the bike down plastic all over.. oil leaking blah... his bike did not even have tags yet. What a winner

Believe it when people tell you bikes are fast.

I smoked a late model camaro z28 that was probably modded without batting an eye, and he took off first.

My bike is a 98 Yamaha FZR 600. I have yet to ride in a car that gives me the same kick as that bike.

The real race test is to get the guy on the bike to go to Home Depot, load 4 60lbs bags on concrete on his bike and the same in the WRX. Then go to 7 11 and each buy a Slurpee then have your race!

I love bikes, had a '86 GSXR1100 that would run like a raped ape but can't see comparing any bike to a car. Maybe after you've beaten every car out there and you need more of a challenge then pursue the bikes....

My 2 cents..

my idea as well...

nothing gives a kick in the pants like a redline with even a simple bike like my SV650.

I leave work everyday ready to fight the traffic jams of the bay area and I look forward to riding back home .... It is a hell of nice way to detune off the day's work. (lol and if you get lucky spank the lexus GS 430 that wanted to go around me so bad ) Sorry I misbehaved but I detest obnoxious people.

Cheers

Nick

PS:a gixer 1100? this a hell of a bike..

Bike's V Cars what a laugh...

I own a 98 Firblade (CBR900RRW) and a non standard JDM import 92 WRX, I can tell you that the Blade will eat the WRX.

The WRX comes back in bad conditions, or when i'm a little tired, or when you can't see far enough for safety on the bike. If i go round a blind bend in the WRX and there is an obstruction I'm happy to just stand on the brakes or head for a field it's no problem. On the bike I allways have to leave more space for safty.

And one last urban myth "cars stop better than bikes" WRONG modern sport bike stop much better than most cars, and even better than things like our WRX's (that is UK / Euro with proper brakes)

Just to give you an idea, my blade is 202kg's full of fuel and has 125bhp (Din) at the back wheel it will do 60 in about 3 secs.

Cheers

beat most winnebagos, i'd say (i had to say that, it's what my friend says about my '75 BMW 3.0 cs). bikes are damn fast though. a harley that runs a 13.9 isn't running right. with an intake and a mikuni carb, most harley v twins can run a 12 flat. they're FAST.

In Philly I beat a Corvette and a Ferrari i met up with on my motorcycle from light to light 3 times in a row. It was just a 750, the guys were kind of pissed especially the old guy in the Ferrari w/ the young girlfriend. They would kill me at the top end but I didn't stick around. Bikes are generally quicker than cars anyway. I've not kept up with the latest and greatest but a Yamaha V-Max had a 0-60 of 2.6 sec if I remember right.
