Default Its been a while, but an insurance question for all...

I once owned a subaru 2.5 rs with my brother until he wrecked it some time back. My question to all the car junkies is, I want to own a subaru wrx but I have heard the insurance rates are through the roof with them, what other new sporty car should I consider that might have a lower overall insurance risk? My vitals are as follows, I am a 22 year old male. I have been liscensed for about four years. No tickets or accidents. I commute to work seven miles, five times a week. I never been insured (used dads car all these years). Gosh, I really, really want the all wheel drive wrx wagon or sedan, it doesn't matter. Thanks to all for you patience and input.

well you had to be insured, just under your dads insurance company. find out if they will give you a deal if you had a good record while under your dads policy. NJ Manufacturers gave me a 2200/year policy because i had a flawless record under my parents policy for 3 years previous, and im only 20.

To be honest, as a 22 year old male it may not matter too much what kind "sporty" car you end up trying to insure.
But I would look in to:
Celica gt
Neon (do they still make the r/t?)
Lancer
And the Focus

But really look around you will be surprised how much the rates can change from agency to agency.

If you can insure yourself under your parent's policy, then it wouldn't be too bad at all. If you never had an insurance policy, the insurance company will charge you extra because you had no previous insurance record (very common among younger drivers.) Not to mention you are under 25, which will push it even higher.
I say try and stay under your parents policy. I don't think it is gonna matter much if you want a sporty car such as celica, rsx or eclipse. It is gonna be high regardless.

You can call the insurance companies and get quotes for usually up to 4 cars. Also see what questions they ask when you call. I'm 21 and my insurance is like 1200/year under my dads plan. I think it is that cheap because he never said WRX he just said impreza. The VIN number should have said it was WRX but the rate he got was cheaper then the 1800/year they quoted me.

Dilfer it would probably help if we knew where you were. For example to insure you in NJ and then in East bumfuuck, Kansas would probably be a difference of $1,000 or so.

My insurance is $485 every 6 months. I am 25 and have had 2 speeding tickets in the last year. (but they never showed up on my insurance so shhhhhh!)

if you're in school and have above a B average, you can get a good student discount, you mentioned you have a clear record, right? if so, you can get a safe driver discount, plus if you tell them you're only planning on putting about 3k miles a year on the car (regardless if you really are or not) the quote will drop dramatically- that goes for State Farm insurance. Once you hit 25 and/or you are married insurance rates drop again. Location matters too- hell, my cousin lives out in Wisconsin and it's not even required from what he tells me!

Default I live in California...

In the central valley that is. About 30 miles south of Fresno in a small town. Thanks for the input so far guys. Btw, my choices so far are as follows. Impreza wrx sedan (AWD, turbo) or RS (AWD), Nissan sentra SE-R (price, above average power), Honda civic si (price, power, mpg).

Yeah...but look at where you live. I'm 21 with 3 yrs insurance history, no tickets, and no accidents (That the insurance knows of) and I still pay $1400 every six months for full coverage on my used RS. I get charged up the wazzoo because I live in Chicago. Had I lived in Indiana, my rates would be a hundred or so cheaper.

when i was 16 i got a ticket for going 96 in a 55
but i was going 101 but the State patrol lowered it for me (GRRR..!)

if he would have lowered it 1 more mph i wouldn't have had to lose my license. but i appealed and talked to a judge on the phone and got put on drivers probation for 1 year which means no "moving violations" for one year or they would yank my license.

well i'm 21 now and i just bought a new 02 wrx in april.

I got my first quote from progressive and they wanted 1,100+ for 6months i about crapped.

i searched a bit and found www.esurance.com

they quoted me at 568$ for 6 months and i jumped on that deal

i had continuous insurace with the same place from 16 until 21 so that probably helped
