Default No cats...... No CEL! Whats the deal?

I have a turboxs turbo back system with a vishnu up-pipe. I was running with just the one high flow cat that the turbo back came with andI would get a CEL every 60 miles. Last week I put on the turboxs race pipe that replaces the high flow cat and have not had a CEL in the last 250-300 miles! I did reset the ecu after the install, however the computer should have learned by now, right?

So what gives?

Most people report this when driving on the highway at about 55 or so. I wouldn't complain if I were you.

I'm in the same boat as you, but I put in one of those MIL fixes from ponyexpress.com

Anyways, have you noticed a volume or a sound change since putting in the test pipe? I'm curious to know if the set up I have now sounds that much different than the set up with the high flow cat. Also did you notice a huge increase in "smell" since putting the test pipe on?

If you are driving differently, you could still be avoiding it.

The ECU runs a check while cruising at ~55 or so with constant throttle. It takes a bit of time in one solid block to finish the test. If you never give it a cruise time block to run the test, it can't decide it needs to throw a MIL code. Perhaps you are just playing with your car's power a little more?

All8up:

Yes the noise did go up alittle but not as much as I thought it would.

Also the smell increased. My car is putting out concentrated evil now

I don't think I am driving any diffrently then before. I have been on the highway for most of the miles so I really should have a cel.

Oh well, I guess I'm lucky for now. I just wait and see how long it lasts.

codean,
I'm thinking about purchasing the turboxs highflow cat because of the "smell" of the exhaust w/ a test pipe. I'm just paranoid.
Anyways I'm willing to bet you've noticed a pretty big performance increase along w/ the test pipe right?

Default Strange things happen..

I've been driving for over 500 miles with only one high flow cat on the cheapest POS exhaust available, and i have yet to throw a CEL with or without my unichip.... I guess it's all different strokes for different folks
