Looks good meifert. I'm in the process of making a light bar for my STi mainly for a pair of Hella 500FF fogs. After seeing this thread, I may end up going with a pair of driving lights behind the grille.

Did anyone do this to an STI?(my 2012 is on order) Any issues with cooling/airflow to the radiator? Would I need to remove them before going to the track/autocross?

I rebuilt my mounting bracket for more to make them more adjustable. picked up a set of heavy duty agle brackets at Home Depot, a 36 inch piece of flat bar, redrilled the mounting bracket, measured and drilled the flatbar, mounted the lights. I want to order the sport grill but not sure if it will fit. I also need to redrill the brackets and move the light bar back about an inch.

^^ very nice job on the brackets. I'm going to begin tackling this soon with a set of piaa 510's. Do you get any light bounce with the newer style brackets above?

a little bit.....but it's from the Hella mounts. my bracket is stupidly stiff.

old grill

lights on at night....still seeing spots.

Here is a pic with the new Subaru Mesh grill in. looks about 1000x better.

Looks good! Is it just me, or is the driver side a little lower than the passenger side light though? Could just be me haha

i think it's the angle of the picture that really shows it. the right light is 1/8 of an inch higher and i can't find a 1/16 inch spacer to fix it....FML.

Really? You can't find anything? I have a 10 mm washer right here that is 1.7mm thick , 2 tenths of a mil bigger than you 1/16 you need....
Im sure any washer will do...
looks good btw, I'm going to steal your bracket idea. Thanks!

the issue is i can find one that is the right height but the hole is too small. when they are anyone who tries to notice would be blinded anyways...LOL

Love seeing this being done now!

I saw a few question on measurements from a little while back. When I have my front end taken apart next I'll make sure to spec out the dimensions of the original, although I plan to build a less-ghetto, welded second version to better place a transmission cooler.

Keep up the awesome work guys!

I put a set of hella micro FF's behind the grill on my old outback.
Mounts attached with the radiator bolt and along the "pinch" seam on the back of the bumper beam. SOLID, never jiggled at all.
(The wiring got cleaned up and hidden, I think this pic was kind of a test fit "here's my progess so far" shot)

here they are with the regular headlights and Hella ff1000's that replaced the stock foglights.

They would have external ballasts if they were HIDs.
