Running 10's is easy.. Sell your wrx, that should get you about 18 grand.. Combine the 12 grand you were willing to spend with your new found 18k, and you now have $30 thousand. With $30,000 in your pocket, it should be relatively easy to find a decent shop to build you a dedicated drag car that will run 10s.. It will certainly not be street legal, or even streetable for that matter. You might want to put about $150 of your $30,000 aside to pay for a bicycle or cheap moped to get you around town. Pretty simple if you ask me.

you can do it legally. just buy a pre-emissions car. like a 240z. stick a blown 350 with a two stage nitrous system in it and you are set. way below 10s with money to spare.

i am gona try and help you since most are makin fun of you.i know how it is to not have a wrx.

you are gonna need everything you have ever seen available(CAI,pullies,FMIC, etc) you are also gonna need to get eithre a 2.2 or 2.4 liter stroker kit and get a shop to bore out your cylinders and throttlebody. you will also need a full dog-box tranny and new clutch. you should also look into weight reduction(gut interior, cf everything, wheels and tires) another things is a custom hybrid turbo that would require a custom turbo-back exhaust. also improve aerodynamics with a cf body kit. you will need nos and alot of it. alot of forging of pistons.

basically you will need money and some good shops around you to do all of the custom boring, forging, exhaust, turbo. 12k is not reasonable due to your lack of expertise. expect to spend 12k alone on the tranny! hope i helped

p.s. sorry for my post being so scattered. also, people keep saying to sell the wrx and get a muscle car. i don't know whether you are trying to be funny or not but he asked for advice on the car this forum is about looking and expecting help. let's not turn into i-club! .... oh wait

Default not cheap, not easy

To run 10.0 ET you need a power to weight ratio of about 5 to 1, so for a stock weight WRX, you'd need just short of 650 HP.

To just crack a 10.999, you'd need a power to weight ratio of about 6.75 to 1, or about 485 HP as a minimum.

I'd say double your cash in hand, and then give it a try.

I have a 10 sec Rex. Best run is a 10.19 @ 141mph. But my street setup would do a 10.5 (approx)
You will need way more than 12K US. I spent AT LEAST 25K US, which down here in Australia is about $50,000. Probably more.
Hope this helps on the financial side. If you want to know about the mods. I posted them in the Newbie section.
Cheers.

Larry,

Could you tell me how or show a link to how you came across what power to weight ratio you'd need to achieve a certain 1/4 mile time?

Going by what Larry said as far as power to weight ratio, here's what you'd need to do. *Goal 430hp*

1) You'd have to have an automatic....here's why: You would be using a totally beefened up tranny from Level 10. $4.5k or so, *Beefier parts, upgraded/higher stall torque converter, valve body, the works*

2) Lighten your car to approximately 2800lbs. Yeah, you better gut the hell out of it but you should be able to do it,

3) Upgrade your injectors to be able to use [email protected]% duty cycle,

4) Get manual boost controller to bring hp up to the most you can get with your stock turbo without too much added heat,

5) Add a direct port nitrous kit (not needed with upgraded injectors but helps) to achieve exactly 430hp.

Easy enough?

Thats pretty easy....

2.5 block, 100 bucks
Machineing for block, 1000 or so
Forged pistons, 800
Forged conrods, 800
STi heads, used from jp, 500
TD07-25G from Fuso in junkyard, 20 bucks
Fuso front mount (same as Trust core) 20 bucks
turbo rebuild, 300
end tanks and pipework for FMIC, 300
1150cc injectors, 500
2 warlbro fuel pumps, 400
fuel rails, 200
standalone 2000
used dogbox from japan, 500
That puts you at about 7k, give or take. With that you can run a 10, figure about 500-600hp at the crank
The car won't idle for $h1t and be a PITA to drive around, but it will run 10s

Are you for real Akirasoft. Those prices are extremely cheap.
Forgies for $800, dont think so.
Anyway, I am going to give you the benefit of the doubt and come to the conclusion you are being sarcastic.

kevin,
you would not have to run an auto. if anything run a full dogbox which can run 8-12k!

you can get the wrx way lower than that weight wise. if you are gonna race this beast then get it down to 2500lbs. the rally is 2500 with a full cage and spare+parts.

definitely injectors!either bigger or get more of them. some say more is better and shows less work on each injector. go for some 800cc

if you are gonna spend this $ then buy an ebc. that way you can master tweak your boost. and get afc to sort out thos rich injectors.

Nitrous is a must. with forged internals and a 2.5 block along with injectors and rails you can run a 100-125 shot. it would be risky but would fly!

oh and to akirasoft: those prices are ludicrous! also, who wants to buy vital internals used from japan. you are obviously making this up! a dogbox for 500 bucks? i would maybe quadruple your estimate and add some nitrous and slicks and maybe you can come close.

i don't mean to disagree with ya kev but i am just trying to add some advice.

theres a shop here that will make a set of forged pistons for any 4cyl to your specs for $500, and rods for $400, so i doubt $800 was being sarcastic.

akirasoft, is the fuso you were referring to a mitsubishi fuso? the intercooler is the same as the trust? my friend is looking for a cheap intercooler upgrade for his talon...

Hungtodafloor (Funny name....Lol! Cool!),

I was making my suggestions based on his price range (under 12k). Just throwing stuff up in the air in good fun. I don't think most people trying to achieve 10 second or single digit 1/4 mile times from their scoobies would consult this board. They'd probably already have a game plan.

Jasona, yeah, the intercooler is the same core that trust uses. Buddy of mine is putting it on his Laser along with a TD07-25G...

Those prices are all real. You just have to find a way to get the parts into the US.

EVERYONE FIND/MAKE JAPANESE FRIENDS!
