So I'm having trouble installing my Defi gauge on my '12. Everything works fine except for the dimmer mode. If I turned it on high everything works fine but if I lower the dash's illumination the Defi gauge starts flashing. I've tried wired it different ways but they either turned out with the same result or the gauge won't dim at all .

Sounds like you might have the illumination wire hooked up incorrectly. Where did you hook up the orange illumination wire?

I'm also having a weird problem.

Red - fuse 3 - door locks.
Orange - fuse 26 - IG1
White - fuse 16 - Illumination

Gauge works perfectly. Sweeps on startup (double sweep). And returns to the "zero position" of 30inHg on shutdown.

However, my door locks don't work. Doors won't lock with the key fob or button. As far as I can tell, the gauge uses the constant 12v (door lock) to return the gauge to zero on shutdown. And since that's happening, I'm going to assume that there's still power there.

Thoughts?

Most fuse taps will have two fuses. One for the original circuit and one for the one you're adding. I would check both fuses. It's possible one is blown. That would cause the exact situation you're describing.

Check your fuse tap and primary fuse in it otherwise pull the tap and put the original fuse back in the slot to verify whether or not the locks work. If they work then I'd say its a bad fuse tap.

no i just jammed a wire lead into the fuse box and put the fuse in on top of it. thats what youre supposed to do right?

yes, i used fuse taps that i picked up from advance auto. These taps DO have a spot for 2 fuses, however, i just re-used the stock fuse from its respective location and put it in the top location on the tap. the other circuits are working fine (IG and illumination) with one fuse, not sure why it would need to be different for the door lock.

also, the windows do not work either. which is strange because i thought that was a separate circuit than the door locks.

ill check the fuses and take some pics at lunch.

You need to put fuses in both slots. Here's a diagram explaining how the power is sent through it:

Is your fuse in the red path of picture above? Plug in 2 fuses to each add-a-circuit and you should see everything working now.

in all three taps, the fuses are in the "yellow" top path.

I understand that. What I'm asking is HOW the illumination is still working on the dash like this? Lol. It's just strange.

I think I'm finally going to pick one of these up because I'm getting an AEM wideband to try to diagnose my 2zz mr2 which I'll throw in the WRX when I'm done

Well I finally got my dimmer to work but the gauge only have full light or dim. I can't adjust the brightness on the gauge. Does the Defi gauge have adjustable dimmer? Thanks a bunch.

No it doesn't dim with the dimmer switch. It only does full bright with lights off or dim when the headlights are on

Yup that's what going on right now. So I guess I wired it right. BTW, do you why it won't dim with the dimmer switch?

They aren't meant to. I know a few other brands like maddad and prosport have dimming systems built into the gauges but the Defi racer series doesn't.
