I recently bought my first subaru too! 1999 Legacy GT 5-speed. Its been pretty heavily modified with sound system, lowering springs, 17''s, sway bars, windows tinted, velvet upholstery and shifter boot, aluminum flywheel and crank pulley, plus stage 2 racing clutch. I would love to post photos but have no clue how haha. But yeah, I love it! Lots of exterior damage though, so I would love to get it re-painted. But for now its getting a new trans. The original was leaking fluid out of a hole in the housing.

Most def props cause it is looking great. But as far as a swap you could look at a v5 or v6 sti swap for not all that much and there would be a lot less wiring since those engines come out of the same chassis in Japan land. Generally when looking at reliability the 207's are going to hold up a lot better than a 205 and in stock form are still a lot of fun. I recommend doing all the research you can, look at what other people have done, and come up with a game plan for yourself. Are you planning to swap it yourself or paying a shop?

^I think I'd have a shop do it. A trusted one that use to work on my eclipse. It's actually one guy with a shed and a whole bunch of rep in DSM land. My issue is I want to keep cost under 7k. An STI build would be more than that.

A WRX build is possible on that budget from what I've read. It will wait for post winter though.

Took a few shots. I really need to have the car shot by a professional.

The eclipse was a disaster NoTanEvo. The engine couldn't even hold 5psi, No aftermarket support and so freaking heavy!!!

I love the impreza, I just need to get going on that swap!

Thank you for the comments guys!

I'm just curious, how much did the paint job set you back? I'm thinking of getting mine done in the near future. Is there a preference to when your getting your car painted? like summer>winter?

It's pretty expensive. To be honest, I paid 3.7K and I felt it was a lot for what I got. You also have to upkeep the paint you get and the initial quality of the paint and the preparation are the defining factors.

A few months ago I saw a car with an anti-rust device, an electrical pulse that reduces oxidation. I was so stunned by how clean the Corolla was 2001.

I remembered I had bought one when I owned a Sentra and never put it on. So I went through my garage and decided to install it on my day off.

I thought I'd post up the procedure:

Step one Find a place in the hood to secure the device, then connect the positive (red wire) and the one of the grounds to the battery.

Then pass two grounds from battery to trunk. One should go on the left side of the car and the other should be put in the trunk.

Then make sure all lights are on.

Done

Also a shot with the center caps

And some bad news.

For the past 2 weeks, I've notice a pretty loud knocking noise and what, I believe is a floater valve. I changed the oil and to my horror I found a significant amount of metal flakes.

The next step is to make a choice of what swap I'm going to have done and where.

Ej255
Ej205
Ej207
Ej257

The limiting factors are budget and reliability and the goal is 250awp.

I'd say go for an EJ255. Extra half a liter but still probably cheaper than an EJ257.

I'm really impressed with the progress you've made. However, did I read right that the new paint job is already going to crap?

^Nop, the paint is actually really holding up good. No signs of wear even through the winter beating.

The motor seems to be ticking more in winter, but still runs. I was quoted 8k for an ej255 swap.
