The only thing people seem to agree on is that you need to vary your speed. I'd say just don't beat the piss out of it and you'll be fine. I tried a rough break in method with my RSX and it always burned oil. The cars I've broken in gently haven't burned oil but they also weren't seeing 8700 rpms on the regular.

I think I went half and half on my wrx. I didn't really go wot at first but I think I got it pretty close to redline under 1000 miles..I may have even launched it lol. It doesn't burn oil but it does do that misfire thing that keeps this thread alive...I doubt that is related though.

Gotcha. I think I can count on one hand the times I have gone to redline and/or pedal to the metal. My car is burning just about zero oil, and I think I did the same as you, half and half. I know I couldn't resist ripping on it, but also didn't go overboard, let it warm up all the way before driving, etc.

Also, those sidebadges are super easy to remove when the adhesive hasnt been on for 1.5years.

I'm in the transition out of mine. I still think its funny how worked up dorks on here get about some arbitrary, nonsense criteria on the whole wagon/hatch thing

Thats pretty much what I am doing, getting upgraded to the 2014. I would have waited for the 2015 but no hatch. It's too convenient and practical to have a hatch. I'm sure theyll get enough crap from people that the hatch will return but for now, the gr is fine for me.

also a possibility. At least I know the 2014, what if the 2015 is the 2008 wrx v2? Or even the 2010 wrx v2? Either would piss me off. Obviously the 2008 would be the bigger kick to the throat.

i broke mine in by just following this:

http://www.cars101.com/subaru/mainte...new%20break-in

New Car Break-in period

1000 miles: Drive calmly for the first 1,000 miles and vary your driving with a normal mix of city and highway.

Always note the blue 'cold engine' light on the dashboard- its a visual reminder that the engine is cold.
Avoid hard starts and stops.
Avoid over-revving the engine, try to keep RPMs under 4000.
Vary your speeds over the full range of city and highway driving
Don't use cruise control much, if at all.
City and freeway driving is fine because that will vary the speeds

I basically just used no more than 40-50% throttle for the first 1000 miles. After 1000, I put a stage 1 tune on it until 30k miles and went stage 2 with full bolt-ons.

at 61k miles, the car still doesnt need a top off after a 5k OCI. Shell Rotella T6 5w40

car is driven hard daily, at least one WOT on-ramp a day.

Freeway has no stops. Highway can have stop signs or stop lights or both. And usually highways are 2 lanes max. Freeways are 2+

California

Freeway is 2+ lanes and asked limit of 55+ mph. No stops.

Highway is not more than 2 lanes that I've seen and no higher than 55mph. Has stops every so often.

nope, and the clutch feels good, engine smooth, runs like almost silently with the stock exhaust, and the spt short throw actually feels short.

now lets see how long the lack of misfires lasts.

Celery GT-5, I stumbled upon this thread and from what I've read your story regarding the rough idle and misfire codes is identical to mine. My car is bone stock 13 hatch with 12,xxx mi. My dealership ended up soldering some connections in the wiring harness and so far the rough idle and check engine light seem to be gone. Good luck!
