Any other 3g owners with a slipping factory clutch? Did a quick search and didn't see much in the transmission/driveline thread off hand.

-6th manual transmission car, so yes I know how to operate the vehicle.
-never launched
-9,5xx miles
-stage 1+ (torqued performance map)

Any constructive input welcome.

TIA

I just had my clutch replaced last month and it feels much better than the original clutch. I'm not sure why, but the original clutch was the worst one I've experienced yet. The new one feels fine, but since day one I always had issue with the stock clutch. The new clutch is the OEM one, so go figure.

So, about a minute after leaving my house this morning I got this fun little symbol to show up on my dash:

I couldn't find it in the manual early this morning, but a buddy told me it means that my hill-holder assist is off. The light went off about 6-7 minutes after it started.

Does anyone know anything about the hill-holder assist? I thought it couldn't be disabled in the WRX, only STI? Confused I am.

It's actually been in mid-40's, but this morning it was probably low 30's.

On my own. I've made a rule to not let anyone else drive my WRX anymore. Play time is OVER.

haha, well I'll be doing the same here after the holidays are over. So I feel for you.

As for why on earth the hill assist light would come on... I have no idea. Can the AP read stored codes if it threw one earlier that caused it to come on?

I open source, so I'm not sure. Cel might be on to something concerning the drastic temp change. It was below 0 for a bit, then suddenly it got up to 40 with heavy rain and wind.

It looks like April right now. Alaska sucks.

That is ridiculous temp change! Ahh, yeah even with the open source might be worth trying to check, 9 times out of 10 it stores that kind of stuff, just a matter of having a way of reading it.

I was having some rough idle problems with the weather here in Maryland changing from 30's at night to almost 80* during the day a week ago. Now that the temps are consistent its smoothed out.

I get the same thing, barely noticeable over my exhaust but I can hear it with the radio off driving out of my driveway and down my street. Gone thereafter.

I've never had that squeak problem that people claim the WRX has had since the bugeye.

Well I've gone through a 100 change per day for a while (from -40 outside to 60 in the garage) with out much issue. I had a few lights (don't remember which) come on once after startup, but I just restarted the car and they went off.
There are a couple of noises when it's really cold(-20 or more). I bit of a whine during acceleration, possibly turbo related. And maybe what you guys are talking about, kind of a metallic-y grinding sound when the clutch is engaged during low speed/gears.
The first explanation that comes to mind would be different metals expanding at different rates, but I don't know if that's applicable.

yeah I don't know exactly how to describe the noise and there is no way you could pick it up with a recording device I don't think

Is anybody else getting a metallic rattle (possibly heat shield) when you first start to take off or when the engine is slightly bogging (decelerating from 40-25mph in 3rd gear)? It's really annoying me.

I removed the downpipe heat shield to see if that was the culpurit but its still there. What other heat sheilds are there? One on the uppipe?

I think Chano had a similar rattle, but with an aftermarket turbo shield.

Oh yes! Thanks for reminding me, I totally meant to comment! If you go maybe a page or two back in this thread I noted that my turbo shield rattles under certain loads and start-ups. Bully told me to cut it back. It's usually only under very cold temps since I didn't hear it all summer. I have heard it recently and it's been warm, so that's my argument and evidence.

Car is at 25k miles, all stock where it counts. I did change the air filter to a non-performance regular air filter about 400 miles back. I bought it at Carquest and was a brand name. I did install it correctly

Am getting what I describe as a turbo whine/whistle. Starts to make noise ~2800 rpm and gets noisier the higher rpm. It appears to only happen at WOT. It is louder when it is colder outside.

Subaru has heard the issue and wants the car back when it's colder

Any thoughts?

I had this problem with my 08 WRX after I had installed a TBE. It went away on its own after break in though. Not sure what it was..

.... but I removed the heat sheild around the DP in preparation for a new dp..
Only happens when the engine is bogging, not when steady load is being applied.

On a side note, damn these transmissions are loud in first and second
