Question 2002 2.5RS Owners, Need Feedback!

For those who have a 2002 2.5rs Please give me feed back on how you like your vehicle. I currently have a 99 2.5rs that I dearly love, but the payments are killing me and If I can find a deal on a 02RS then I'll consider dumping the Rally Blue beast. What I'd like to know is if your satisfied with the performance, handling, looks etc. Any problems etc. Your opinions are important to me making this decision.

Jeff

Heck, I only payed $19,000 (plus tax) for mine I love it. The only problems I've had so far are A) I burned out the accessory fuse trying to get a vacuum cleaner to run off an inverter B) Trying to figure out which parts are compatible with parts from the old model Impreza so I can buy performance upgrades

"If" I do it? I'm ordering a silver car. I have the Rally Blue, now it's time for a silver car, maybe...?

I'm also thinking about ordering anthracite Prodrive 7's for the Silver car if I buy it.

I have the 2002 OBS in the black. With it washed every week, the dirt doesn't get obnoxious, and that black with really dark tint is awesome! In certain light you can see the deep blue metal flake and it's awesome...

Congrats Subymamma, Actually I was there when you bought the new OBS. Pretty Car!

Anyway, after crunching some numbers tonight, my MY 02 hopes of on hold for another couple of months. I need to make a few more payments before I'm on the good side of the loan, plus I need more money to put down on the next car before I start dreaming again. If I can get a good price for My 99RS on the street then things might change.

I got mine for $299 over invoice ($18539)

The only problems I can think of are:

  • People getting way too close to my bumper to see if it's a WRX or not
  • People trying to race me (I won't do it)
  • The dash-mounted cup holder is pretty much worthless

Oh yeah, I forgot to add the part about the color. So far, after every wash I've given my car, it has rained and left little dirt spots all over

Can't forget about those great seats

When I first got it I was amazed by how must faster it would go through the corners compared to my Jetta.

What are your guys payments btw?

My cousin loves his 2002 RS, and I want to get one ASAP... Whevever that may be

My complaints:

-Lack of rear LSD (which 2000/2001's had)
-13mm Rear sway bar
-Paint chiped easy

Thumbs up

Don't think twice about buying the 2002 RS. This car is a joy to own. For me it gets better every time I drive it. Not too many people know this car exists and I've had people ask me what it is. And I absolutely love the interior of this car. I've had this car for two weeks and I still can't find anything I hate about it. I'm not the least disappointed that I chose the 2.5RS over the WRX. I bought mine for $19,000.

Ask your dealer about touch-up paint. I heard somewhere that it wasn't available yet for the new/modified colors, but some of the colors that have been used on other models should be available.

No, all the touch up paint is availible, at least at my local dealers.

Get a clearbra or something if you want to prevent the dings...

Why would anyone get rid of a Rally Blue 2.5 RS Pre 02 for a 02 RS that weighs more and has no more power?

If it is size issue I understand otherwise.. RS to RS the Pre 02's look and perform better IMHO.

If your looking for more cargo space.. build a Pre 02 style WRX wagon out of an OBS or Impreza wagon.

a friend of mine (who has a race-only 00 2.5RS) decided to get a 02 RS instead of a WRX, because he wants to build it up himself, when i asked him his thoughts, he says that the car doesnt feel slower at all, (he's yet to test it, but come on he has to know something since he roadraces his 00 professionally ) BUT that the chassis dynamics on the new car are so incredibly superior that any loss of straightline acceleration is moot...
(at least to us folks concerned with more than 1/4m speed)

Omaha,

I was looking into a 2002 RS purely for financial reasons. If I keep the Suby then I have to re-finance the baloon payment at the end, which is rediculous because I will end up paying for the car for a total of 7 years.(48 mos + 36mos - refinance). If I could get a deal on a 2002 I'd take advantage of the lower finance rates, have a new car and pay it off in 5 years versus paying off a 3 year old car in 7 years. Anyway it's not gonna work out the way I had hoped for at least 3 more months, plus I need to put down quite a bit to lower the payments.

Talk about a world class Cluster F*ck!
