This team and especially this car are badass.
You might want to pay attention. It's competing soon in this year's Pike's Peak Hillclimb. http://pikespeak.rallyready.com/the-car They are intent not on the street class but on the unlimited class. Usually a street car has no chance against purpose built hillclimb race vehicles. Then take a look at the rear of this Evo and it seems well maybe they can set the record after all.

I don't think they have any chance at the unlimited class record.
Their car is well prepared, but still suffers from the limitations of starting with a production car. |

production car; unless they did tube chassis front and rear to make the car do as they wish, a sequential box and some serious aero work...that turbo at only 100 lb/min will have some serious work cut out for it on 2.3L 4-banger
best of luck to them and I hope they prove me (and Sean) wrong. |

They have 2 secret weapons, Josh and Dave. Not sure who is driving but both are very, very good. And Josh is equally good as an engineer with degrees from Johns Hopkins and experience on the Audi Le Mans team from Florida plus Euro experience. And they have AWD Tuning and who knows what else. Go RallyReady!!!!

Yup used to be, hardly anything remains of that car. This chassis has also won its class in Daves hands twice since owning it. Ill be supporting this team again this year for the third time. heres a link to the live cam GO 959 GO!

re-read that they're on factory control arms...it's a cool attempt but I think the 5-spd manual box and that 1000whp setup will make for some seriously cool footwork for the drive. I'd love to see video of the left foot braking and the antilag setup they'll be running on it.

The evo at RR is purpose built, it ONLY races PPIHC, yes its production based but thats about it. Also Rhys has never been past the 11 min mark, and his father is well past his prime, he hasnt even been to the mountian for 13 years.

I think the general feeling from posters in this thread is that we wish you and your buddies well, but the general tone of the original post is waaaaay too boastful given the car (and the drivers).
The fact it's 'purpose built' for PPIHC doesnt change the fact it's just a little four-banger turboed within an inch of it's life, in a tarted up economy car chassis. Don't get me wrong, I wish your team luck but let's call a spade a spade. |

I'd love to see their mapping approach for the altitude correction being how strung the 4g63 will be at altitude.
just thinking of the twin turbo V6's stuffed in tube chassis' with massive aero and a ticket weight of 2400 or so...the usual for the unlimited class. An actual car will be interesting to see what it can do. |

This is will be my 25th year on Pikes Peak. Since I have been there every unlimited winner has been factory backed, Audi, Peugeut, Suzuki and Toyota. They also have had great drivers like Tajima, Millen, Vatanen, Khankkunen, Unser, Rohrl.
BTW my numbers say that this will be Tajima's 23rd year racing Pikes Peak. Rhys started racing Pikes Peak in '92 and now is factory backed by Hyundai and Red Bull. Rod Millen is coming back for the first time since 2000. I was standing next to Marcus Gronholm after his first day of practice on Pikes Peak in his factory backed 800 hp Ford Fiesta Rally Car and this is what he said about Tajima: "@#$%% Tajima @##$% drive @##$% fast. I need another 200 hp and a built from scratch Hill Climb Special." He finished 2 minutes down on Tajima. This is a tall Mountain to climb in more ways then one. Dave is a great driver but if he wins and breaks the record in this crowd it will be one of the greatest upsets in racing history. Go get them Dave! |

oh, and Rod Millen is in the 2wd Time Attack class, not the unlimited. He is driving Rhys' Hyundai Genesis Coupe.

**** dallenbach with his rwd car. there hasnt been a non-awd car to win ppihc since audi started running ages ago. He doesnt need more power, he needs 2 more drive wheels. The open wheel cars are pikes peak of the past. 10.47 is impressive for the weather he ran in but I dont see the car getting too much faster.

I am not a huge dallenbach fan (or a fan of any 2wd car except f1) but to say they cant compete ignorant. Robby Unser had a run of 10:05.85 in 1994 when the road was all dirt. This is the same year Millen set the overall record of 10.04.xx. This was in an open wheel 2wd car. I do not know if he was na or fi.

It's nice having the Pikes Peak record book sitting on my desk.
Dallenbach has never run a turbo before. He does have bad luck with n/a engine as it normally blows in practice. The turbo should be even more trouble. If it works 1200 hp is something else. He is a road racer so the more the course is paved the more it comes to him. In 1993 he beat Tajima by about 1 second for the overall win and and both went under Vatanen's record at that time with Paul setting it at 10:43.63. I remember it took about 10 minutes to announce his time after he crossed the line. |

It might be an Evo that was purpose built for Pikes Peak, but it's not a purpose built race car. There's a big difference there

Anything's possible. Dave needs to keep his foot to the floor and let the rest work itself out.

Trust me I am cheering for Dave this year 100% (and will provide any help I can when he is pitted at Revolutions Performance race week). Sh$t my turbo was on the Evo last year on race day to help him bring home the win. I am just saying don't count out any unlimited car.
