Post Who's had work done at Red Star Racing?

I tried getting something that should have been a simple job (EBC) installed there, and even though the guys seemed friendly, I wouldn't ever go back there again due to how they worked on my car. I'm not bashing them or anything, because I think they're probably good mechanics, but they couldn't wire up a boost controller which seemed very odd to me. So their electrical knowledge obviously need work. Even some of the hardware for my EBC was installed improperly ( i.e sensors, vacume lines, etc). For 4 days my car was in limp mode because Tito took out my stock Denso boost solenoid which SHOULD NOT be removed when putting in a EBC. I asked if they'd ever installed an AVC-R, they said "yeah". But by the looks of it, I somehow doubt that. Half the time Tito was looking at the instructions trying to figure out what goes where. I kinda regret taking my car there to begin with, but oh well.

Good thing, I went to speak with the guys at I-Speed USA and they got everything installed and tuned properly. They did a great job finishing the install. And at $40/hr you can't beat their rate. Thanks to Andy (AC Gohan) and Bill (Skywalker) @ I-Speed my car will be ready for Sacramento Raceway this coming Wednesday.

Cheers,

Dan

Bump, I love to see a Redstar response to this, given the normally good things we hear about this shop.

Gino?

Wow, I wasn't aware of this at all, what can I say but sorry the work wasn't done satisfactory. I will look into the install in question and update this thread with an official shop response tomorrow.

Did you inform Tito or anyone at the shop of the issues prior to having a second opinion ?

Sorry for any inconvienence this may have caused

Yeah, Tito knows what's going on. In fact he said he couldn't install my AVC-R since my car was a 4EAT. He claimed that the 5MT and 4EAT ECU were totally different units, which just isn't true. I got Kevin from Carlsen Subaru to fax over like 15 pages of ECU wiring diagrams with pinouts and he still couldn't do it. Finally I just left. I called him back the next day because Joe Fong was supposed to bring a wiring diagram book to the shop, but Tito didn't get it. I couldn't wait any longer, so I went to the guys at I-Speed. I don't understand what was so difficult about connecting 5 wires to the ECU. In fact, Tito still has some misc. parts that came with my AVC-R. (Connectors, boost scramble toggle switch, instruction manual, etc). I'd like all that back. Thanks.

I have no answer to this and will have to speak to Tito and reply tomorrow. I am glad you have it working now though.

Sorry to hear about what happened. I was there the day you went to Red Star. I had the other silver rex wagon in the parking lot-shopping for a K & N filter. You and I spoke for a while. Glad to hear that your car is up and running again.

Dan

From speaking to Tito there were no charges for any work carried out and he also informed me that the work was not complete and the customer was informed to this end?

I/we can appreciate your frustration on this matter and think that it may be at the point of some miss communication. Please contact me directly to see what we can do to right this situation with you.

Cheers mate

Red Star...don't know much about the quality of work they do, i hear nothing but good stuff though. Personally i went to check it out for myself (Small shop) but they seem like nice peops and looked to have a lot of work on their hands. Thats about all i know.

I had lots of stuff installed there. They always did a very good job and they were a fun bunch of people to be around. Talk to Gino and he will hook you up.

Cheers
