10:00 Welcome meeting
10:30 First group out

Hotel Info:

11617 Research Boulevard,
Austin - (512) 241-1600
its nice... killer breakfast! but not free... but highly recommend!

As you may have noticed in the title, COBB Tuning is sponsoring this event and its only fitting as they've been working on Subarus since before the WRX ever hit our shores. Like last year, we will begin there and finish there.... and 'drumroll....' eat there too for dinner! - Keep reading below.

Here's the map:

The route runs counter-clockwise from years past and I think that will make life much more simpler for all the groups involved.

-Leg1: Starting Out
From COBB Tuning in Austin (2311 W Rundberg Suite 500, Austin, TX 78758)... we will head north up US HWY 183 until it begins to turn into 183A... at that point we'll continue back up "old 183" to TX29 outside of Liberty Hill. From there we head into the town of Liberty Hill and turn left onto FM1869 ... at that point, there is an old Mobil station... team leaders can re-group if they've lost anyone along the way.

-Leg2: The Fun Begins
Make your way through Liberty Hill on FM1869 and then have some fun reaching FM1174... that's right kids.... FM1174... the road we've always finished with is what we begin with! After driving that fun road before noon, make your way to FM1431 and head west to Marble Falls... watch for police as you are entering the town... the road getting there is fun, but if you get traffic in front of you, not so much. It is a relatively busy road, so passing into the oncoming lane is NOT advised. Turn left onto US281 head south through Marble Falls and check out the awesome views as your cross the Colorado River. Continue heading South on US281 to Berkeley's Travel Center just past the small town of Round Mountain (10541 US Highway 281 N, Round Mountain, TX). Point "D" on the above map.

-This is a FULL STOP for all groups... because after that, we can go as one WHOLE group for most of the rest of the trip.

-Leg3: Reunited at last:
Once everyone has had a chance to re-group, stretch, top off gas tanks... we'll continue South on US281 Farm Road 1323... all group leaders need to be paying attention for this one as it can come up quick and you don't want to miss this one! This is 35 miles of good times! After you have gone through a lot of twisties... the road straightens out for quite a distance as soon as you enter Gillespie county... don't go too fast as you'll have to turn south on to RR1631 and head to Fredericksburg... once in Fredericksburg... turn left onto US290... then immediately ahead on your left is a Sonic and a Pizza hut. End of Leg3

-Lunch: Why sonic and/or pizza hut? because we don't go IN to Fredericksburg (traffic)... and both restaurants will be able to accommodate within reason.... besides... dinner will be awesome - keep reading.

-Leg4: Bellies Full
We'll head out again as groups... and follow roads we've used in past years, but in reverse.... head to RR1376 and turn right... there's a shell station there and a KOA sign for indicators... follow this road past Luckenbach and then turn left onto RR1888. Head east until it ends at Farm Road 1623, turn right and head to Blanco. Once through the town square of Blanco... look for RR165.... this an awesome road that in the past as had a VERY fast downhill segment, now its uphill 165 ends back at US290... turn tight... end of Leg 4:

-Leg5: Home Stretch and Flyover
Once on US290... cruise and maintain normal driving speeds back into Austin... take 290 to I-35 and go through the city... take the upper decks of I-35 to have a nice afternoon view of the city for those who don't normally get to see Austin... head to US183, head north... go back to COBB.

-Dinner: We will be having an all-you-can-eat Texas BBQ Dinner at COBB Tuning's HQ that evening. And we'll have two beer kegs on tap. If any of you know, Catered BBQ isn't cheap, so for all-you-can-eat. I worked out that $10 per head would be VERY fair... as well as the beer, $5 gets you a cup... drink away... but don't get stupid... and you will be carded

I have not come up with Friday or Sunday plans just yet... but I'm willing to bet that it'll be similar to previous years.

(I realize this is on Father's Day weekend... but the weekend prior is ROT) and the weekend after is just getting too late into summer).

LOL, nice I'll take too late into summer to drive the 3 sisters cruise I planned...

Anyway, I'll see if I can make it, probably so. But what time is this getting started and at what time do you anticipate dinner? I don't think I saw it anywhere. So this long drive is Saturday, anything else the other days in the weekend?

Typically we have first cars out by 10:30

Dinner will likely be around 6ish.

Cool, I'll most likely make the drive, but probably skip the dinner due to father's day stuff. Maybe I'll make it back before the kegs get floated though...

Any particular time to start showing up at Cobb Saturday morning?

I'd say 9 is a good time to show up... park, show off cars... we'll have donuts/kolaches available as well.

Impreza GC8 Texas Old Skool Meet Ver. 4

Bump for an awesome meet!!!

What we started as a small Old Skool Texas GC Meet has morphed into a three day gathering of great food, great cars, great runs...all three days, and most important, great old friends.
I've attended all events so far, and actually thought about getting this thing together a few years back. Unfortunately, I had no idea on how to organize a gathering, much less for one the entire state. So I had a very well known GC owner, and one with a whole hell of alot more experience than me help. Or more like made him organize it, and me bugging the hell out of him.
Fast forward to the fourth year, this has become a whole lot bigger than I've ever imagined. And in the process, have met some really cool people, and now have some great friends in the Subie community, and beyond.
I'm happy that this has become an annual meet for the 10+ year old car...now with the addition of the bugeye. But I still think the GC is best. :mamoru
I hope this year is the best to come. I can't wait to see old friends again, and meet some new ones, back in my old stomping grounds of Austin. Thanks Cobb, for letting us invade your spot, and thanks Kevin for keeping this going!!!!
Now, a few pics of the last couple of years. These pics are from other members on rs25, and here. These are courtesy of thegoldenfist... Enjoy:

I'd totally be in, if the Forester wasn't going to take until July to get done. Don't feel like showing up in a bi-colored 1992 SVX.

Ha! I had retired from doing meets... got tired of trying to make everyone happy! For real though, thank you for pushing me to make this event happen annually. The past few years it wouldnt have happened without someone basically making me do it.

Damn, I'm going to miss another one. My '98L will be in Houston getting tuned. I was really looking forward to opening it up (just a little ) as well as test the new suspension (Koni Inserts with RSR springs in the front and Ver4 STi springs on the back).

I'm gonna do my best to make it out there Kev...

I'll just be coming back from a road trip/track day in Colorado, but I'm gonna put this on my radar for sure. I've been wanting to check out "Hill Country" for a while now

As the first 2011 WRX owner with a Stage 1 AP tune, I recommend you do it
