Default GrimmSpeed WRB Paint

GrimmSpeed WRB Paint

After purchasing a Prodrive front lip, JDM side spats and rear aprons for my 03 WRX I was looking for a cost effective but quality way to paint match all of them along with my oem side skirts. I had received quotes from local body shops to have them all painted for around $500. Then GrimmSpeed released their WRB paint and I decided to give it a shot. I purchased 3 cans of the WRB paint to all of my parts not knowing what kind of coverage the paint would have! After spending a day getting all the parts in primer and ready for paint the box from GrimmSpeed arrived and it was time to get started. Now for the review!

WRB Paint first look!
The GrimmSpeed WRB paint comes in a 12oz spray can. It comes with a label on the side of the can letting you know what color it is! The paint is fitted with an adjustable spray pattern head depending on your painting style.

Use and Coverage!
Make sure to follow the directions on the can to mix the paint well. The WRB paint has a lot of flake in it and needs to be well mixed or shaken before use. After making sure the paint is mixed well I started making light sweeping coats. The paint comes out and coats very evenly. I used 3 light coats and one heavy coat on all my parts. The paint dries very quickly and allows for multiple coats to be done in a short amount of time! (NOTE! The paint will appear to be semi glossy and somewhat too light of a color until the clear coat is applied) After getting the desired number of coats of paint on I put a number of coats of clear coat on it and let dry. The paint match is amazing! I would recommend this paint to anyone looking to paint match a hood scoop or side skirts or really any other part! It is easy to use and the coverage and color is awesome. It is a very affordable way to paint match stuff. I did all the painting on my parts in my back yard! See the finished product below! Thanks GrimmSpeed for another great product!

The Finished Product!

Still cheaper than paintscratch.com. $24/can and $9 shipping. Is the GS $15 per can, or $15 per order (say, if you order 2 cans)?

Shipping cost comes out to around $14-15 for multiple items (FEDEX ground or USPS priority), so their shipping cost seems reasonable when ordering multiple items.

I've used WRB (02C) and Aspen white (01X) from these guys a few times for lips, grilles, and side skirts, perfect match.

They only charge $1 for shipping on each additional can.

Very cool, definitely post pics when you get a chance! That other can should come in handy for touch ups down the road!

How did you get the trim around the passenger side air vents out? Did you just tape them off without removing?

Just painted some new bugeye parts this weekend:

- DIY Outback Sport Grille (I removed all the material in the back around the badge and at each end - much cleaner IMHO)
- Orciari Fog Light Covers
- Sport Grille side pieces (I removed the material so they actually do work as vents)

After 3 coats of GrimmSpeed WRB paint:

After 3 coats of Duplicolor Clear Coat (still wet):

After a few hours of drying time:

This required many hours of prep work - Dremeling, sanding, some body filler, more sanding, primer, more sanding, primer again. Hopefully it was all worth it!

FYI, this used almost one full can for anyone thinking of buying this paint. I was liberal with it because I knew I had plenty for these small parts.
