Thumbs up Cyprus WRC Predictions-Win a T-Shirt.

OK guys, W&L Subaru here in PA is putting one of their new Motorsports Divison T-Shirts up for grabs for the person who successfully predicts the top six finnishers in the upcoming Cyprus Rally(must be in order). If no one gets all six right, then the person with the most right in their correct finnishing order will win.

It seems to have become a pretty common thing to do here in the motorsports forum when a WRC event rolls around(as well as F1, but W&L doesn't sell any parts for them ), so I thought this might add a bit of fun to it.

And please guys, no editing the Sunday of the rally while you watch Rally-Live , and no more predictions after the start of the rally.

As for the rally itself, Sainz and McRae were the class of the field last year, but Prodrive has been doing alot of testing on the rough stuff with the new car, and Burns and Solberg both seem very excited at how things have went. Should be a good one.

So give us your top six predictions. And no, I don't have a picture of the shirt, only the first rough draft drawing which is nowhere near as good as T-Shirt. The guys at the print shop did a good job cleaning everything up.

Question

I'll take a shot at it:

1. Richard Burns
2. Colin McRae
3. Carlos Sainz
4. Tommi Makinen
5. Petter Solberg
6. Francois Delecour

Optimistic for the Soobs but to your point Burns & co. have been doing a lot of testing of late for this and Acropolis. Here's hoping the new car is finally coming together.

Ed (edited once, just for the comment. I'll stick to my choice of drivers.)

hmmm....ill give it a go.

Lots of options for this one.

Peugeot will have a new car. Subaru is said to have a revised setup for rough conditions after some testing in Portugal that paid off, and proved itself in Argentina. Mitsubishi is always a threat with Makinen, and with the new version EVO-6.5 is even more dangerous. Carlos is almost a podium shoe in, and won here last year. And If Colin can keep th car in one peice, he will be right up there as well, again as he was last year.

Predictions...

1. Tommi Makinen
2. Carlos Sainze
3. Colin McRae
4. Richard Burns
5. Marcus Gronholm
6. Francois Delecour

I'm w/ Jaybird on Carlos repeating his win from last year (unless team orders puts Colin ahead though I don't see how that could happen w/ Carlos ahead in the points). Anyways:

1) Carlos Sainz
2) Richard Burns
3) Tommi Makinen
4) Marcus Gronholm
5) Francois Delecour
6) Alister McRae

What about Colin? I think he'll live up to his "McCrash" moniker allowing his bro into the points.

This week fellas! Looks like the Ford guys have the upper hand at the moment.

70 percent of the route this year is different from the way it was run last year, and since last year was the first year it was ran, it's going to be practically new for everyone again this year. It should definitely be an exciting one.

Boy I hope someone has a lap top at STPR!

Unhappy

Dunno if results have been posted here yet, but they have over on http://www/swrt.com. At the end of Leg 1:

1. Gronholm
2. Burns (5.7 sec back!)
3. Delecour
4. C. McRae
5. Loix
6. Sainz
7. Auriol

Makinen and Solberg both out - so much for my t-shirt. Arai is in 9th so there's a possible shot for the podium for him - though he's not nominated for points he could keep someone else out.

Go team!

Ed

Talk about being a hard rally to pick!

Anyways, Tangmere and Brandonl were the only guys to pick McRae as the winner and since I didn't have an official tie-breaker method(and we have a few t-shirts left), I'll send one out to both of you guys. I'll e-mail each of you for you info.

Maybe will try it again for the next one?

Hahahaha McRae and Burns go 1-2, and all the Peugeots retire. Who'da thunk it?

Though I think I'm most surprised by Tommi going out. I think it's been a while since his last crash (San Remo last year)?

Tommi crashed in Sweden this year.
Quote:
Leading the championship before Sweden, Mitsubishi could have achieved a superb result; their two nominated drivers being ahead of the rest at the start of the last stage. Tommi Makinen got greedy though. Attempting to pull off his 22nd win in the WRC, a little too much panache caused the four-time world champ to loose everything and sit there helplessly as his Lancer rolled down the snow- covered road to retirement.
