correct me if im wrong, but i feel that the trans bracket is necessary.
my line of thinking is in regards to exhausts with no flex section. with no flex section, the exhaust turns into a long arm, putting stress on the dp to turbo connection every time the exhaust moves side to side. this can be alleviated with stiffer exhaust hangers, but will not prevent all movement. a second mechanical fastening point (trans mount) seems like it would keep things a bit stiffer, and lessen the swing of the exhaust, thus lessening the stress on flange welds, or at least put stress on less expensive/necessary bits. not to mention that there's a good chance theres a really smart engineer somewhere at subaru that put that bracket there for a reason.
im not claiming to be %100 correct by any means, this is just my uneducated opinion. if im wrong, please tell me why i am.

to the op, if possible mount the dp and make a cardboard template.

If the weld shears then there are some extreme forces on the exhaust. I don't think letting it swing around is a good idea. It could be done I guess and be fine.
