Default Craziest Car event in the world comes to the USA!!!

Welcome to Powercruise

The Wildest Cruising Car Show You'll Ever Go To!!

Powercruise is Australia’s and New Zealand’s premier modified car event, and known as the place where you can do everything that you’re not allowed to do anywhere else. Powercruise really is the next level in Automotive Entertainment, and now Powercruise is coming to the United States of America.

Powercruise events allow YOU to drive YOUR car on the track along with other like minded petrol heads in the cruising sessions, where you can cruise next to the toughest Modified Street Machines, Hot Rods, Imports or Drag cars wether their turbo charged, supercharged, nitrous injected, naturally aspirated or however it is you like your engines to be…all with your family and friends in the car with you!.

Then we have events like Powerskids, Off Street Drags(old style street flag drop you get the picture!!) Drifting, Burnouts Aussie style, Dyno comps, Show & Shine, Miss Powercruise stage shows, camping and heaps more fun stuff that can only be explained in our DVD clips.

We are currently working on bringing Powercruise events to Brainerd International Raceway MN, Watkins Glen NY, Road America WI and a few other tracks around the country. As dates are set and venue’s are confirmed we will update this page with all of the important information.

As the Powercruise concept is new to American’s, we figured the best way to explain to you what Powercruise is all about, was to show you, so check out our Utube Channel with clips which highlight a single day at an Australian Powercruise event in just 10 minutes… It’s Addictive… VIEW CLIP HERE

You can also watch our Driver Briefing Video which explains what you can and can’t do on track at Powercruise… VIEW DRIVER BRIEFING VIDEO HERE

Check out our photo gallery which has hundreds of photos from Powercruise events in Australia and New Zealand, and there are also some photos from us on the 2010 Hot Rod Power Tour.

Michael Gilbert is the creator of the Powercruise concept and as such has the modified car to back it up. Michael ('Gup' as he is known) has been playing with big horsepower cars since he was 15 years of age and has had a large selection of tough streetcars and Pro Street cars and currently has a 1969 Camaro which runs 7.70’s at 185mph. He also swaps that same engine into his Holden HQ sedan which is a 540ci Chev force fed by a 106mm Turbonetics turbo, Powerglide and 9inch rear with 3.25 gears for long top end tyre smoking action.

Basically 'Gup' started Powercruise because he wanted somewhere for himself and his mates to play up in their highly modified cars so he chose to hire race track venues around the world to get his fix of speed and fun because it’s simply too unsafe and illegal to do all these things on the roads these days. So finding a place where you can everything your not allowed to do on the roads anymore was the driving force behind the Powercruise concept. Check out some of the pictures HERE and you’ll see just how many people have followed him to the tracks to get their fix of fun in their modified cars with their friends.

Of course we also have a long list of safety rules that apply to the events and these can be found on our Australian site in the entrants section and but all of this imformation is also provided to Entrants before they come to a Powercruise event so while all the action does look a little wild, it’s certainly well controlled with over 30 events in 8 years of experience to our name.

In the mean time make sure you register your details to receive more information on Powercruise events in USA by clicking ‘Join Our Mailing List’ button just at the top right of this webpage, and we’ll keep you up to date with the latest news by email newsletters. Or if you have any questions about Powercruise or want to get involved either as a local assistant or sponsor or exhibitor or just a guy with a car that can help us spread the word or Powercruise… just drop us an email to [email protected] and we’ll go from there.

Catch Ya Cruisin…. Gup

We'll of course be rocking it at the Powercruise. This looks to be amazing. I juist wanted to spread the word for this amazing event.

BIR is an amazing track, MN also has 2 of the top 5 largest car shows in the US 1 of those being the largest.

MN has quite a diverse car scene!

They will make their way around the country, it will travel the US.

But it starts here, and there won't be another till 2012!

Something much closer to you is the NASA Hyperfest. Similar concept to what the OP was:

This year, the date are 6/15-6/17 I think.

We have plenty of payment options but if you prefer you can still download and print the form, complete it, scan it and send it back to us in an e-mail with your credit card details.

The website is at www.powercruise.com so right after you finish freezing over there get the cars sorted cause its gunna be a big one.

And a big thanks goes out to everyone who came to Powercruise last year. Your kind words of support, suggestions and offers to help spread the word were all taken on board as you will see in the changes and were much appreciated so I hope by bringing Powercruise back to BIR in 2012 you accept this as my personal thanks and may the horsepower gods be with you…but not enough so you can get round ME.

so what's this thing like in the 'states?

here in aussieland it's the biggest bogan/redneck/classless/trash-filled event you can imagine. if i ran the country the only thing that would stop me dropping a bomb on the events would be damage to the racetrack and the maybe 1/20 cars there that are actually nice.

Could be the reason it's only at a few tracks! Seems like a big insurance liability. I'd stay clear of this to avoid getting my car totaled. Far better off doing any HPD event.

schmidly...couldnt be further from the fact.. i only go to Brainerd at thsi point as its a lareg expence and it needs to get traction before takign it to more racks. insurance is fully aproved and with our 40+ event history and no 2 cars ever coming together in this time woudl be reason as to why Powercruise is so sucessfull.. check out the utube clips search Powercruise....

yep i have. the amount of retards that were coming onto the track often with SIGNIFICANTLY more than their cars factory output, passengers 2, 3 or 4 strong & STOCK BRAKES was unbelievable.

they'd come off the track and be like "**** the brakes were getting pretty hot towards the end aye?!" and the things were basically baked to within an inch of their bloody lives and could in NO WAY come CLOSE to stopping the car in what i would call an acceptable timeframe. they'd basically only consider the brakes to be "too hot" when they were spending more time braking down the straights than they were accelerating.

in fact i remember at one event some retard in a VL commodore with 3 passengers loaded actually had his EXHAUST COME OFF and land in the middle of the track. HIS EXHAUST. this car then actually managed to complete another ENTIRE LAP and attempt to pick up their exhaust themselves! i mean SERIOUSLY? no yellow flag? no MARSHALLS getting it off the track? and that's ignoring the fact that SCRUTINEERING SHOULD HAVE PICKED UP ON THIS IN THE FIRST PLACE.

i mean seriously, just think about the kind of damage you could do to yourself, your car or someone else(s) if you were to hit someones muffler section flat out. sorry but that's just a flat out failure of scrutineering followed by complete & utter failure of the marshals and/or "race" control and there is no way in HELL i would take my car on a track with that kind of "inspection" beforehand.

you say no two cars have ever come together but i know for a fact that more than one of these dickheads with no brakes or drifting showpony tools have spun off or ran out of brakes, plowed into a wall & totaled their car because i saw it happen.

considering all that's required is a helmet to get on the track, there appears to be virtually no driving standard enforced, scrutineering as far as i can tell basically doesn't exist and people have and continue to write their cars off at these things then there can only be two explanations left as to why they're so popular:

1: you make a point of keeping things like what i've posted above very very quiet or,

2: the entrants are absolute MORONS and just plain DANGEROUS behind the wheel. considering they're the ones "cruising" around carrying multiple passengers often with SEVERAL hundred horsepower and stock bloody brakes (many of which are bloody DRUMS) that are basically on fire for most of their stint would suggest the second.

everything i've described above in my post happened at the SAME EVENT guys and i'm sorry but it's just plain not good enough. in fact it's downright dangerous.

you sound like a racer mate. racers done understand what we do and i doubt they ever will. i dont deny those things happen and many more but for reasons i aint gunna sit here and explain to you things like this happen every day on our roads and tracks. people exaust falls off, people see it, they tell us we get it moved. people hit walls while drifting its a race track thats why they do it there. and seriously scrutineering should pick up on an exaust clamp? rules change and so have responsibilities. we dont call it scrutineering as we dont scrutinner the cars, we check them for basic safety. its up tot he entrants to acknowledge their car is fit to do the activity.

anyway it is whatit is, we have an excelent safety record and wouldnt be still doign it for the last 9 years if we didnt have somethignright. acceptable risks are a part of doign business and whiel the risk management comapny and insurers say we are doign it all by the book and the best we can, then i'm happy to take my 1800hp hq out onto the track and cruise with everyone...based on the risks in front of me.

each to their own and i respect your opionion

cheers

fair enough and that's your decision. i am what you'd call a racer and i feel it's only fair that people know the risks before undertaking any kind of motorsport activity.

i won't personally take my car on track when it's "up to the entrants to acknowledge their car is fit" but obviously many do and as i've posted up that's what the results are.

For comparison, here's how it happened at an HPDE event I was at a few years ago, that resulted in a muffler (just the muffler section) departing the car in front of me.

The car (Lotus Esprit V8 TT) had gone off track the session before, and the exhaust apparently didn't get checked. I file this in the category of "sometimes these things happen on track".

About half way through the 20 minute session, I was catching the Lotus (I was in my 2004 STi), and noticed a few sparks from the exhaust dragging. The sparks started getting worse, and after 1 1/2 laps of a 1.6 mile track, the muffler came off the car in front of me just as he passed the black flag station where he had been given the black flag for the muffler. He came into the pits that lap. The muffler was on the edge of the pavement, well off the racing line, and there was a debris flag at the corner station preceding where the muffler was the next time I came by, and presumably at the time the muffler came off. It was picked up at the end of the session.

That said, I know exactly what passes through your mind when an exhaust departs the car in front of you when you're driving your daily driver (I have a track car as well, but have run the STi a few times primarily just to see what it does at the limit). In this case, except for the initial issue of me trying to figure out exactly where the exhaust was going and how to avoid it, there was zero drama, and it was done in a very safe manner. I talked to a couple of the other people driving in that session, and aside from their general wondering of which car it came from, there were no issues with it, and it was well regulated by the corner workers and control.

It's called Power 'CRUISE' not World Time Attack, I don't go to them (I to prefer doing dedicated track days) but I know people who do and they enjoy the format for what it is a 'CRUISE' not a PB setting track day.

I was at this event last year and will be attending again this year. I understand the concerns and to be honest I was a wee bit hesitant to dive right in...after seeing the event take place (at least here in the USA at BIR) I felt very safe and had ZERO concerns. Gup and the rest of his ARMY had things on lock down. There is no other event where you can get on the track and race side by side with cars ranging from bone stock supercars to 1000hp+ muscle cars and everything in between
