Default Amazing save at Isle of Mann TT - Mark Higgins in an STI

Watch the video once, then watch it again just focusing on the inset to see how much steering input he was making at 150mph. It's unfortunate there's no telemetry on the video, it would be great to see what his throttle inputs were as that was happening.

According to PistonHeads, the "co-driver" is just a Road & Track photographer. I'm guessing something like that wasn't quite what he was expecting when he strapped in!

Wait...they run cars @ Isle of Mann? Why did I not know this? Was this just some sort of demo run?

Holy crap. Great save.

I bet those white racing suits have a bit of brown on them now.

It's amazing watching him handle the steering wheel during the whole ordeal.

Yeah, I thought they only held the motorcycle races there. Pretty cool to see the STI on the course! That was definitely an amazing save.

I don't think the passenger quite realized how out of control they were. If he did you think he would have had some sort of reaction like stiffening up.

no ****.

i've had a similar one, but mine was only at about 90mph. thought i was fine one (as it turns out to be frosty) night, took a backroad that hadn't had any traffic on it.

after loads of traffic'd roads thinking all was well this one had frost all over it (which i didn't see until i was on top of it) due to the still air/no traffic, and it decided it didn't like me driving on it. not that i realised this until i was crossed up most of the way through 4th gear.

long story short you'd be amazed at what you can do when you have no choice.

^^^this, 110% ! The scenery was VERY close on both sides, not much room to twiddle the wheel in without collecting brick walls, trees and such.

just watched the vid again (4th time) and Higgins definitely lifted OFF the gas after the tank-slapper started. Once he got the STI pointed more or less in the right general direction, he came back on throttle a bit to help stabilize the car. Then it was foot to the floor again, as if nothing ever happened.

All more reason why you race your liter bikes there with average speed more than 130mph per lap

the guys on the bikes are completely nuts...

there's plenty of footage of them just inches away from clipping the walls etc. several airborne moments, there's even one set of S corners they get airborne in the middle of and whilst airborne rotate the bike to be leaning the other way for the next corner... amazing. crazy, but amazing.
