Default 1/4 Mile - Stay in 3rd or Shift to 4th

I have only made two runs at the track with my WRX. At the end of the 1/4 mile I was just about at redline in 3rd gear. I was wondering which will get the best time, staying in 3rd or shifting into 4th.

Thanks.

Eric

Default i didn't notice

a difference in times by going into 4th. I ran the same in 3rd, 14.4. I think its plain safe to stay in third when going through the traps. I take it that you're bone stock? That did you run?

Stock you can hold 3rd, but its not a good idea.

Any mods and you should be shifting 4th.

My best was 14.7. The temperature was about 90 degress with 90% humidity. My first was a 15.2. I forgot to turn off the A/C (stupid). I have a Borla catback and a Blitz SUS intake. I am launching at 3,000 rpm. I just don't have the guts to launch at 5,000 rpm.

I kept it in third both runs. Next time I will shift and see what happens. I figured a shift would cost me a tenth or so.

I shift 4th at around the 1000' mark with my car. probably earlier on my best runs. I try to shift at 6700 2nd to 3rd, and 3rd to 4th.

Not too much power above 6700rpm in my car.

When racing on the street i shift at 6k usually.

i hit 4th right before the 1000ft stock, and i hit 4th way before 1000ft now. but then, the 2.5 has a lower redline...

what is wrong with you!!j/k. if you want better time launtch it at 5000 rpm, that is what is recomended(if there is sutch a thing) to run low times. the fastest WRX it UTAH dropes it at 5000rpm and barely brakes a tire loose but he does TRIP TRIP TRIP in 2nd and even sometimes 3rd( im not sure if 3rd becouse i might be having another car confused in this story but im 90% he dose)

Hell! In my RS w/ nitrous, I am almost having to go to 5th in the 1/4! That totally sucks. Way too much time wasted shifting!
