Default 2011 Formula 1 - Round 8: European Grand Prix 2011, Valencia Street Circut

Race Date: 26 Jun 2011
Circuit Name: Valencia Street Circuit
Number of Laps: 57
Circuit Length: 5.419 km
Race Distance: 308.883 km
Lap Record: 1:38.683 - T Glock (2009)
Last Years Winner: Sebastian Vettel

I wonder if qualifying will change at all since the FIA is cracking down on "qualifying maps"? Link here: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/92494 This is in addition to the blown diffuser ban set for the following race in Silverstone.

Pirelli will introduce a medium compound tire for this weekend that was tested in Canada P1. So we will have a medium and soft tire this weekend.

Also two DRS zones again this weekend.

Just a reminder, the race will be on Fox at Noon, rather than live.

Ahhh, the borefest of the F1 calender.
I hope two DRS zones are going to enough to make it interesting.

man, all these rule changes are making it difficult to get my less interested friends into F1. i spent the last race explaining to them why they work, and why they're such an advantage, and now that's all out the window.

on a similar note, is the renault system going to get banned, considering that their exhausts are run so far forward? it seems like they're taking advantage of the whole underneath and the side pods, not just the diffuser. i wonder how they'll fare.

Figure out whats important and whats not when explaining things like this. I don't think a rule change like this is important to understand F1, other than just saying 'there was a rule change for how the cars create downforce.' I don't see it as a reason why anyone should be less interested in F1.

The exhaust placement change isn't changed for this year...yet at least.

^ well, it's that my friends are actually techy, engineering geeks and appreciate this stuff once they get their heads around it. they're specifically into aero - one's a sprint car driver. but the fact that they don't follow f1 very deeply means that they barely have it in their heads to begin with... and then it's constantly changing... and then it doesn't come on again for another 2-3 weeks... and when it does, it comes on at like, 4am! i don't mind it much. i actually appreciate that it keeps you on your toes, and that it requires a certain level of commitment, but it sure makes it difficult to get someone else into it.

Thats why you bring them in slowly. While they might want to understand everything, until they get the basics they don't need to know everything. Its just like when I'm trying to tell people something about computers, while they might want to know everything, you can't tell them everything all at once. Its not like every race the rules change, it shouldn't be too difficult for them to understand.

I'm doing the same thing with my gf right now, getting her into it, and I make sure to tell her enough so she understands something, but give up when I get too technical.

In one episode they revile the Stig as michael schumacherbut it was just a gag.

The stig is more likely a British stock car driver.

I think you have to want to learn. I came into this F1 season with literally zero knowledge of the teams, drivers, rules or anything but was genuinely intrigued and wanted to follow the season. I downloaded the past 20 year's season reviews, read the F1 tech articles and got up to speed. Someone being roped in by someone else probably won't have the interest to do that.
