who has played this game? how would you rate it??? I have the original for Playstation and the graphics can't even compete with the computer!! However... Nicky Grists voice is no longer in te game apparently!!! Instead, It's been replaced with some guy Who sounds like he's tlaking with the radio in his mouth!!! That and all the wheel/pedal peripherals i've found so far SUCK! Any comments? suggestions? snide remarks?

Go to Interact, the online CD-ROM store, and get an import version of CMR2. I have one, and it's fantastic. The grapics kill, and Nicky's pace notes have been upgraded/altered, so that he calls out the GEAR for each corner. Problem is, I've played CMR1 so much, where the higher the number the more difficult the corner... Well, you can imagine that this is causing some Scooby damage issues.

It interacts better with my Logitech Wingman wheel/pedal number, and everything's good to go. I'm having a great time.

yeah, this game is fun. But there's one VERY very annoying flaw:
the co-driver doesn't compensate for your speed when calling out the corners and the hazards. Nothing worse than having a 3rd gear corner called out 30 meters before hand (when you're in 6th) and then, by the time he's finished saying that, you're in the turn and then he proceeds by telling you "don't cut" and you smash right into a rock or a tree... all the rally games I've played have this flaw... what's up? a simple flaw like that can really screw up an otherwise great game..

well, that and the cars still yump about as well as my grandma could, watching the replays of when the car is in the air makes me laugh every time...

Unhappy

You don't have to get the game on import anymore. I got a copy at Software Etc. I just can't get it to run right with my Mad Catz wheel or Sidewinder Force Feedback stick. When I'm in the menus it it like the the down arrow is continuously pressed. Also, the game doesn't seem to like my GeForce 2 GTS card. I get a lot of stutters (even on 640x480x16!) Has anyone else had any problems? I've been exchanging emails w/ tech service, but they don't have a solution. Here's my setup:

P4 1.4Ghz
512MB PC800 RAM
Intel D850GB motherboard
Windows 2000
DirectX 8.0a
Creative Annihilator 2 GTS (I've tried the Creative drivers and the detonator 3 drivers, I've got a Elsa Gladiac Ultra coming in a couple of days)

I played with setting the AGP apeture in the BIOS, and setting it to 256 seemed to help. I was going to play with the Data Transfer Rate and the fast write stuff, but they are grayed out in the Creative control center. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Jason

WHAT??? I'll have to listen to it again, but i don' thikn that's Colin's voice on there... He's got a pretty thick accent and even though it's hard to make out the words, A scottish accent should be unmistakable.

The guy calling the corners in the US CMR2 is NOT Colin or Nicky. In the UK version, the fly-bys were Colin and the navigator was Nicky. In the US version, it's some NASCAR driver with a southern accent doing the fly-bys.

I'm running a celeron 450 w/ geforce 1 DDR and 256MB of RAM on Win2k. The only time I have stuttering problems are on courses where it's raining and the road is mud. I found out that setting the car detail to "low" on these courses fixes the problem. With high detail it seems like I'm getting about 5 fps on those courses.

If you are running Win2k, that's the problem right there. I switched from Win2k to WinMe (I know, I know, but Win98 wouldn't work with my steering wheel) and I have all the graphics options maxed out now with no problems. It is a huge difference. Now I can't wait for Whistler...

And believe me, I thought I would have the hardware to run it in Win2k. Athlon 1 Ghz, ATI Radeon 32MB DDR... it shouldn't be choppy, but it was.

DougM totally agree with you on the pace of the pace notes, REAL annoying. I play the game with an Andretti wheel, and it rox!

For your Subaru freaks, here is a modified sound file , and alternate skins for the Impreza.

I've had the playstation European version for a while. This game kicks a$$. To get it to play on my playstation, I ran a patch file over it and it works great.(mod chip req'd). There is no way that it's Mcrae's voice on the American version, it sounds like a southern accent.

stutters aren't necessarily always due to a screwed up video card, sound cards can screw up frame rates as well.. and force feedback effects can hinder performance(sometimes significantly).

Also, DirectX 8.0x might be messing with your system in all sorts of ways, it did mine.

good luck

Orbit03- I went through the ordeal you are running into with the joystick constantly braking (down arrow on menus).
Go back to Windows and bring up the Sidewinder schemes (icon installed in bottom right). DISABLE SCHEMES. This worked for me.

There was a topic on the voiceover in the OT thread. I think it's Ned Jarrett, actually, which explains the Southern accent.

PURE, try either the Logitech Formula Force or the ACT Labs wheel/pedal. I've used both, and they're first-rate, with my preference being for the Logitech.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. Unfortunately I can't switch from win2k as this computer is primarily used for CAD stuff (Pro/ENGINEER) and that takes precedence. Oh well, I guess I'll wait until I get a home computer in August (PA has a one week suspension of sales tax on computers in August). Thanks anyway.

Maybe if they came out with a linux version we wouldn't have to deal with these crappy OS issues Although there probably isn't a lot steering wheel support for linux. Some geek has probably made a hack for it though.
