Hey guys, I recently received a protune through my accessport for my05 wrx. I have full tbe, uel megan headers, Evo 3 16g , bigger tmic, walbro fuel pump, 750 injectors, je pistons and rods, Injen cal, with adjustable bov recirculated. My final numbers were 260 torque 270 hp at 18 psi on 91 oct. Was very happy with tune, but then about a few weeks later I started to get excessive wastegate flutter, than I lost spool time, then I tried tightning my bov to see if it would get rid of the flutter, it did but now it has been starting to backfire excessively through shifing and I can no longer hear my turbo blow off. I loosened it back to normal and a little flutter came back now, but it seems that either im not hitting target boost, or that the turbo just doesn't spool till late. There is no slamming against your seat affect when I hit boost at 3500-4000 rpms now its gradual boost all the way till 5000rpms and its not as strong. I also noticed that I smell a lot of fumes in the car with windows rolled up, more than usual since im catless. Should I assume that the tune is being affected by the weather since its cooler where I am then when I got it tuned and have then take a look at the timing or is something mechanical failed. Guys any input should be helpful, thanks.

I would start with a visual inspection on the intake and exhaust. Check both for leaks. If you never used to smell fumes before it could be and exhaust leak near the turbo of some kind or it could just be from the car not running right and going rich.

If you have an intake leak somewhere it can cause the car to not reach target boost level, afterfires when you shift, and the car may run rich although logic would say it would run lean. It all depends on the what the ECU sees.

If you have an exhaust leak before the O2 sensor the car will probably run rich and you will smell fumes.

If messing with your BOV made a difference you might want to disassemble it and inspect it. Also, maybe check your boost controller as well.

This is where I would start. Well, #1 I would check the car via data logging and see if something looks way out of place.

Ok, thanks. I forgot to mention that I have a grimmspeed ebcs that I was tuned with as well. But what your saying about the intake....I could swear based on sound coming from the intake, it dosent have that clean sucking sound with throttle. Many were saying that the wastegate flutter was resonating the sound through the intake, which made sense to me, but now im second guessing that cuz the backfiring is much louder from the front of the vehicle near the intake instead from the back of the exhaust where I've heard it before...but when I check for leaks do I leave the car on, like what's the easiest give away ...
