Well, maybe more than a few laps... more like an hour! No one threw the checkered flag at me so I just drove.
This is the first time I had the RS on track, on stock tires, stock everything. Judging from the street performance, the only issue I could predict was tirewear. The track is a 1.8 mile loop with a few chicanes. Heavy braking on both ends, heavy right hand turns. The car did well- the engine has enough torque to let me short shift the awkward shoots. The suspension is a little soft, but better than the A4 standard suspension. The tranny and shifter are awesome. Never a missed shift, always positive. The tires... they only really made noise in the long corners and under some screwed up braking. I expected the tires to be corded, but they had the smallest feathering on the outer edge. The brakes-- After an hour of 85 to 40 mph every 30 seconds, they took a beating. The pads got cooked. Doh! Compared to the Vipers, etc, I was toast. The only car I could could draw comparisons to was the M3, who ran 50 second laps like I did. The next test will be Feb 24/25 at Texas World at a 2 day driving event. I have video from TMS, and it'll be posted on my site when its digital. http://home.earthlink.net/~palmerj/

I agree, i learned a lot at the auto-x. im going to keep auto-x-ing mostly stock for as long as i can. I may even go back to a Ganz flow style intake so i can qualify for G Stock instead of STS. IMHO, learn you car then start the mods.

My pal is organizing more events this year- Texas World, Motorsports Ranch and maybe Texas Motor if the infield is back together.
Texas World is -hoot-! As far as modding a car for the track-- Learn to drive the stock car and feel how each mod changes the it. Making the car faster makes it harder to learn the limits. |

Josh- you are one of the handful of racing newbys who know what was going on...
I've been helping promote the driving events thru the Audi groups in DFW, AustinSA, and Houston. 25% of the time, I get the 'But my car is stock, I'll get smoked. I'll wait until I get (insert chip, tire, gofast part) and then I'll run. Now its one thing to run a stock car and others be faster, but its totally another thing to have a modded car and get flattened by a stock 2.0 VW GTi. |

Actually Josh, only the filter medium can be touched to be legal for stock. A Ganz Flow intake replaces some of the plumbing and uses a totally different filter.
Run in STS and forget about GS-- if you're interested in seat time more than anything, who cares really? I personally don't care about my final results this year in SM! |
