Default RallyX this Sunday

There's a rallyX this Sunday in Thorton. Check out http://www.coloradorally.org/ if interested.

Come see if you can beat me in my wagon.

If you guy's haven't run there before, be aware that it's quite soft and silty and there are pretty good sized rocks hidden in the dirt. Other than that, have fun!

Default Don't let me fool you, I'm new to RallyX

I am new. Do you have any pointers? I have heard that it's pretty bumpy. Is there any problem with running it in my daily driver? Give me some insite, I don't want to make a fool of myself. Thanks, J

I also use my daily driver, an outback. You should have enough clearance if you haven't lowered your car. If you have, I'd advise you not to compete, as you may bottom out a couple of times on the almost 1 mile track.

pointers. Drive like you would an autocross track, except that you can flick your car. YOU WILL BE SLIDING a lot of the time.

I will be out there in our Red/White Dodge rally car. We have the car 2 1/2" above stock with rally tires and skid plates.

My OBS worked fine out there but make sure to run more then 30psi in your tires so you dont roll a bead like at the rally sprint that was out there.

it should be a good time.

Bring sunscreen and water.

Like Tangmere said, the course can get a little rough. It is still doable on stock suspension, but you have to be a little careful about the ruts as the day progresses (last time I was there, we had 6 runs of about 3 minutes). This isn't the place for lowered cars, as they tend to hit the front bumper/oil pan on the course when the wheels are in ruts if the driver isn't carreful. I saw an Audi rip off the front bumper that way, but I haven't had problems there before, and I am running a mostly stock RS.

Like Erik mentioned, don't try running low tire pressures as it makes it very easy to pull a bead off the rim- I saw that happen to one or two people the last time I was out there.

Oh yeah, how could I forget to mention that. Add snacks to that, since we only have 1/2 an hour for lunch. If you're lazy, 120th is only 5 minutes away (burger king and such)

The turnout was pretty decent. We've almost got a Subaru class with the exception of two Mitsubishi's and an Audi.

Congratulations to Rupert who got first in PGT (REX wagon).
I came in 2nd (Legacy Outback)
i think KeithRS got 3rd. (duh 2.5RS)

That means wagons handle better when it comes to tight dirt tracks

Wow- I would be surprised if I actually got third with all of the cones I was plowing over (and that nice 15 second missed gate ).

One other thing I forgot: a board to put under the jack. They don't work very well when they are on nice soft dirt...

Congradulations to everybody who was fast out there.

-Keith

Default Thanks!

You can't get much closer then a one-second win, but I'll take it! Rallysquirrel, wagons are cool but I would give your driving more credit. I'll give most of the credit to my car and hope Keith doesn't get his WRX until next season! JCScoobyRS, I was glad to meet you and your girl. You did great for a first timer. Hope you come back and try it again. That course wasn't as rough as I thought it would be. Shooting up the hill to the jump was a blast!

Rupert

Post Official results should be posted soon...

It sometimes takes a couple of days but it should be at www.coloradorally.org under Rally X results.

JCSoobyRS, sorry I didn't get to meet you. Definitelly next time. Cool to see that your girlfriend came out too. I wish my finacee would.

What usually helps is if you go codrive with someone who's been doing it for awhile to see how they drive. You're more than welcome to come with me next time, and it'll be nice and comfy in my Legacy wagon

Thumbs up Good News

Next Rally X will be on a Saturday, August 24 at Doc's (SE of I-25 and Hwy 7). Don't plan too far ahead because the way things have gone lately this too may change!

These are the PROPOSED dates for the next rallyX es

8-24
9-29
11-3 (opt.)
11-17

Hopefully someone can find a different site for us to use, otherwise it'll be the same place. Not bad, but a change would be nice.
