Default 2011 ppihc pics

Hey guys me and my friend Chris went to The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb I borrowed my gfs camera and got some sweet pics and I thought I would share. If you guys want I can also upload mountain pics these will be just of the car/race stuff.

So first I'll show pics from the day be for the race 6/26 (saturday) when we went to scope out which spot we wanted to be at.

So first off the start line.

If you have played dirt1 or any other video game that features ppihc you have seen this before except you were blasting past it at about 100 mph.

This shot is of us going up the mountain coming back down it serves as a brake check where they test how hot your brakes are our Chevy Cobalt rental was reading a 373 F yeah we needed to pull over for about 20 min. Brake check sign:

There was also a convoy of motorcycles coming up the mountain behind us I bet you can guys the guess make:

We would be on the inside of the left hand turn pictured the above on race day.

There were also some vintage cars at our hotel that would be competing the next day

I love this 49 Cadillac.

And a vintage Mustang:

The Yokohama Team was also staying at the same hotel.

Their Trailer:

And their car that competed in the EV class:

Alright race day stuff.

Here we are at about 3:45 about 1/2 mile from the left turn to get on to the Pikes Peak Highway after the left there is another mile or so to the tollgate the gate opens to spectators at 4am.

On the way to the spot which we believe is the 11 Mile Water Station, we could see competitors parked along the way, such as the Nobuhiro Tajima "Monster" Go Pro car.

Sorry for my mug being in the shot we will see a better pic of this car later.

Here is a shot from our spot once we got parked.

First cars to go off were the EV class. I missed the Nissan Leaf going up the mountain mainly because they were so quiet. But I did get a pic of the EV Yokohama car.

Then they let the vintage cars go.

This Ford Falcon broke the Vintage Class Record.

Then we had some trucks go I'm not sure of the class.

And I just thought this was a great shot.

Unlimited Class:

I told you I had another shot

Open wheel:

These are the good shots I have going up the mountain I didnt take any pics of the pro stock class, or atv class (sorry I was getting tired it was about 4pm and there were several delays.) but I did manage to get a motorcycle shot.

At Pikes Peak they have a great tradition where the drivers parade down the mountain and high five the fans I was uber excited.

There may be an issue with the handling:

Tajima did not come down the mountain as far as I could see, according to the broadcast he was spewing antifreeze once he got to the top, its ok he did demolish his old record by nearly 10 sec. It was a great experience I'm glad I got to catch the 89th run of the PPIHC. Unfortunately its getting paved as of this year but I recommend going its a great experience, the people of Colorado are great, friendly, polite people (Denver, and Colorado Springs in particular) you will not be disappointed. I know I'm going to go again probably the 100th run if not sooner maybe driving idk . If you guys want mountain pics I can upload some of those as well just let me know. Alright well its about 1:21 EST here so I'm heading off to bed Ive been up since 4:30 MST, let me know what you think!

That's my old bugeye that I won the '10 SCCA ProSolo National Championship (STX) in, now campaigned by Christy Carlson! She did great, but had overheating issues. I'm sure she'll be back next year to give it a good run, the TV commentators said she looked "absolutely fantastic" as she drove by them .

Awesome pictures! I was up at the Bottomless Pit and saw several of the cars break down(5 total). I also didnt get to see some of the cars you posted, as they didnt make it up to where we were. Great stuff, and a great race!

Met the drivers of this car at the Dallas Cars and Coffee back in February. Really cool guys, let my son climb in the car and hang out for a few minutes. Definitely made our day.

How'd they do on the day?

those stadium trucks and rock crawlers/ baja rigs were in the pikes peak open division.
That Seat was a euro cup car, VERY ride nice and cool dudes.
The red celica tried racing last year but the car got stuck in customs for an addtional 2 weeks, it had some pretty cool shocks, they were AO struts with no springs.
The Renault had a r35 gtr power plant making 650 whp, they need more but said they would be back next year with more, anyone get some pics of how their rear wing attached?

Sure looks warm for PP. I think I saw that Caddy race at Rd. America one year at the vintage races. And that white Mustang ran at Rally TN this year (we beat him
