Thumbs up American Touring Cars race at Vegas!!!

I just found out last weekend about an ATC race in Vegas. On the 2001 list of entries, one person is in a WRX! This was the first race on the list for the 2001 season. Also, this is only the second season so we should go out and support this race series.

Being in the middle of nowhere it is the closest race that will be held to Salt Lake.
Hopefully, a few of us should be going down.

If you can check it out.

ARG!!!

I'm not sure. We were looking on the net for info on American LeMans Series and found the touring cars. The race is on the weekend of March 10-11th at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. http://www.lvms.com/

SOA has not filed the requisite TIF (Technical Identification Form) with either the Speedvision Cup or the Motorola Cup. They also haven't yet decided on a class for club racing (again, a documentation deal). I wouldn't look for a WRX-based tarmac racer until SOA gets their act together.

If I had to guess, just based on the fact that the only sanctioning body I have heard of lately using the "North American Touring Car" moniker is N.A.S.A. .
Check out the info under Pro Touring and see what familiar make they mention there.

That's not the same thing. I was at a friends house when I saw the web page and can't remember what the address was.

SCC had an article about a Del Sol by Bumble Bee Racing that raced in it last year. I also think that the Integra from the Spa-24 article raced in that series. I will try to find the site.........

Scoobyslack, If your talking about the Sport Compact Car issue that does an article about Killer Bee Racing, then it is NASA that you are talking about.
I have that issue in front of me right now. Page 142, of the issue with the WRX on the cover.
The sanctioning bady is NASA, the series is called USTCC.
United States Touring Car Championship.

Click on the NASA link in my previous post to get to the website.

Albert,

You can find the current schedule at www.ustcc.com. As of this point, it is unknown if we'll have television coverage. There was some talk that it might be possible to run with the Motorola Cup series at a few races as a seperate class. If that happens, there will be TV coverage.

Also, our press release is on the home page of this site under Main Headlines. Check it out.

Gary

GarySheehan-Sorry I beat you to it. There should be at least two of us coming down from Salt Lake to see the race.

Do you know the schedule for the weekend?
Could we get a close look at your car?
I am so glad to see that someone is finally racing a Sube(other than rallies/autocross).

Scoobyslack1,

We don't have a schedule for the weekend yet. A typical USTCC weekend has a Saturday practice, a Saturday qualifying session, and a Saturday qualifying race. The qualifying race determines the starting grid of the main race on Sunday.

Sunday's format it 2 morning practices and then the 40 minute main race.

Just an FYI...we will not be running inside the NASCAR oval facility. We will be running the long roadcoarse that is outside the oval. Not a very glamorous place, but a fun track to drive. There aren't a huge amount of spectators, either, since the series is so new, but we'd love to have you come by and see us.

A word of caution, the car will be very rough at this point. We've only had the car now 2 weeks since the cage was installed. So it won't be the prettiest car out there. Also won't have the complete graphics package we hope to have for the rest of the season. But you can definitely get a very close look at the car. Even sit it in the driver's seat if you'd like.

Look for a white Ford F350 dually with a white enclosed trailer and a silver canopy. Stop on by and introduce yourselves!

Just to let you guys know that there will be an autocross that same weekend, March 10-11, at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway by the Las Vegas Region SCCA. Sign-up for autocrossing AND watch a WRX (good luck Gary)kick butt!! Look for a few LV locals in their 'subes in the autocross. I'll have the slowest time. My first time autocrossing !

Gary, can we really get close and take a look at your car? Thanks.

Toolin, I will be coming down with Scoobyslack. There is a possibility we may run the morning half of your autocross in a friend's Legacy GT Limited. I had fun at the Pahrump event, Scoobyslack wanted to come but couldn't make it. I was the one with the blue '98 RS with the 22B wing.

GarySheehan, that will be great to see your car up close. I have met Shiv before at SEMA a couple years ago. I see he is your crew cheif according to your press release. Well, I am off to a friend's house to watch the American Le Mans race.

Good luck at the race Gary.

Toolin,

Yes, you can really get close and take a look at the car. Just come on by and hang out.

I think it's a $5 admission charge to get in to a USTCC event. Free if you are a NASA member. So just by one less beer Friday night and you're in!

I think it's great you are running a new WRX in this series.. Wish it were televised! Please keep us posted on your progress, and any potentially televised races. Just last week I was thinking about the series on speedvision with the Realtime Racing Type R's, BMW, etc, and how fun it would be to see the WRX added in. Good Luck!

Hmmm looks to me like the've decided to revamp the old NATCC; North American Touring Car Championship, only under the USTCC moniker. You guys remember the NATCC? Randy Pobst, Mark Donohue, Darren Law, etc.... etc... Awesome series, I only got to see them once at Long Beach, but man, I'd love to see them again as a support race to the CART series.
Gotta fly!
