Post I'm in charge of orgaizing a Rally-X (help!)

Well I've been in touch with the local BOG for the Nebraska Region of the SCCA and have talked with them about a Rally-X. They just grinned and smiled as they've heard about these, but never found anyone interested in doing them... I said what? Your kidding... They explained that all ther TSD rallys (I've been on 2) are held on pavment because of avid competitors who don't want to go to the dirt or gravel.

So my question is I need some examples and ideas of what makes a good rally-x site as I'm supposed to find on in or around the Omaha metro area.

All your advice and help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Jon

1 - go to www.oregonrally.com

2 - email some of the folks you'll see on that page with any questions you may have... they can assist you...

we use large open, flat areas...
you need a wide open space, no trees, ditches, etc....

fairgrounds work great! we run 4 times a year on 2 separate grounds...

large open lots work well also...

we have our first pea-gravel lot Rallyx in April.. this will be gooood!!!

please let me know if you have questions...
i will do my best to assist...

Jon,
Check out www.dcrally.com. The DC region performance rally group ran two rallyx last year on a gravel lot at Nissan Pavilion (a large concert, uh, pavilion) in Virginia. Rutting was minimal. Dust was a bother. Cars faired quite well (except for an exploding turbocharger). Perhaps there's something similar near you.
Or, with a little luck, you could find a very cool landowner with an avid interest in the SCCA, his own race car, and is willing to not only let you tear up his property, but assist in course design and event organization as well. That's pretty much who we've run into out here (his name is Dave Pomfret). Our first event will be held at his property this weekend. It's a large grass lot that most likely will be wet from recent rains. (I'm acting as Event Steward, so I hope it's not too wet). Pictures are available on the site.
Good luck in your search!

Rob

Wink

we hire out a water truck at each and every event...

this helps keep the dust down...
the neighbors happy...
and drivers on their toes!!!

Thanks for all the help so far... I got an e-mail from the MidDiv chairmen about doing rally-x and he said go for it because it would be good for both NRSCCA (nebraska region) and the MWSOC (Midwest Subaru Owners Club).... My only reaction was... Really?... you think??? of course I didn't tell him that.

I've got one place in mind, I hope to check it out this weekend.
