Cosworth Tuned Subaru Impreza To Take On Supercars At The Pageant Of Power

At this year’s event, which runs from July 15 to 17, a very special Subaru is hoping to take the crown as the fastest car on this challenging 1.2-mile track. This special Subaru is an Impreza STi that has been tuned by Cosworth. The model is called the STi CS400 and produces 395-hp. Apart from the power gain over the standard model, the car also gets lighter 18-inch wheels by Pro-Race, and six-piston caliper brakes by AP Racing.

Taking the fastest car crown at this track won’t be easy, since there will be some other fast machines hoping to take the glory. Cars such as the Ariel Atom V8, Lamborghini Gallardo LP-570-4 Performante, and the McLaren MP4-12C are just some of the other cars taking part. Last year, a Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera set the fastest time ever on this circuit with a time of 62.68 seconds.

To give the Cosworth STi its best chance of winning, the car will be piloted by British Rally Champion Mark Higgins. He recently set the fastest timed lap of the Isle of Man TT circuit in a Impreza STi. So they have the right man for the job, but will the car deliver? That we have to wait and see.

I hope they win or at least do very well.

All this is in hopes that they take these wins and knowledge and someday make more a powerfull and better handling STI for the US market.

I really hope they do it too.. There is some Big Guns there, losing to an STI would be a real slap in the face.

i'd rather see GST's L out there instead because it would stand a chance. not so much a stock interior GR with ~340whp.

I love when the sti beats super cars in races. Part of the appeal of the cars is the underdog nature of them. Sometimes I think of my car as Robin Hoodscoop, stealing performance from the rich and giving it to the poor! ya thats lame.. ha

I'd like to see it win too.. But up against an Ariel Atom V8? That's a step past optimistic if you ask me.

these supercars stock weigh as much if not less than the GR with 200whp more

Just being able to play in the same pen as these guys should be sufficiant for Subaru fans, forget about winning, but hey keeping fingers crossed for a win aint bad lol

That is the one I worry about, too. I just don't see how it is possible. The Atom is a big engine strapped to a racing chassis and tuned to kill supercars. If the Cosworth STi is even in the ballpark it will be good enough for me. Higgins will certainly wring out all he can, but this is a tall order.

Autoblog ran two articles on the event. The first was a video of the Celica and the 2nd was a photo compilation, neither show/mention the STi at all, very disappointing. I hope someone will find a video of the STi run and post it here, or maybe link to the final standings so we can see how well it did.

It hasn't run yet ... the video (above) was from Goodwood... the event that the STI will be at is the Cholmondeley Pageant of Power, just a stone's throw away from where I grew up!

I have to wonder why it's so mild. Is it a classing or rulebook thing? If it were open classing I would expect something like the gobstopper or the like to show up.

Yeah, the Cosworth Impreza would be much better suited to Class 4 (Touring and Rally Cars), wouldn't it? Mind you, Class 4 looks like older vehicles, maybe there are manufacturing date restraints as well for each class?

This won't go well for Subaru... but, heck, you have a bonafide rally driver in the cockpit, maybe we'll pull off an upset and beat the Leaf.

Any chance they're racing on ice/dirt in this class???

I agree, 395bhp is around 300whp. Not going to be enough. Basically it's a stage 2 (turbo back and retune) STI.

I think the gobstopper has been retired from competition. RCM is working on a newer model to compete with...
