Default High Compression Custom Piston Group buy for 2.34 and 2.5L

This is a group buy on a very versatile set of custom pistons.
The pistons are manufactured by JE Pistons utilizing the new 925SD forging. This forging is based off of the billet design that we (and a few other shops) helped torture test for JE. After the design was confirmed to work as they had designed they made a forging to match. Creating a forging off of the billet design lowered the cost from 1200 a set to roughly 900 a set for custom pistons.

However, that's not enough! So I worked it out with JE that if we get
6 sets we can lower the cost to 650 a set.
8 sets: 600
10 sets at 550.

Prices include shipping
If you would like ceramic coated crowns you can order that for an additional $100
For custom spec pistons that is a DEAL!

Lead time is 4 weeks after final payment is made.
So what are you getting for your money?

*99.5mm 925SD Forging rated at over 1000hp.
*Tool Steel Wrist pins: strongest pins offered for these pistons
*Complete Ring set with high tension oil control ring kit
*Large Valve Reliefs for +1mm valves and high lift cams
*Custom MPS Dish for faster burn which bring MBT closer to TDC and further from your knock threshold
*Offset wrist pins for quieter operation
*Contact reduction: small channels cut in skirt to minimize surface area and help maintain oil film
And other features not discussed on the board that make these pistons work better than any off the shelf piston.

Piston Specs:
3.9145" giving a .003-.004" clearance depending on final bore. Larger if block is honed.
13cc dish
.012" deck clearance for use with OEM STi headgasket

What can I use these pistons for?
2.34L engine with +2mm rods and 75mm stroke
2.5L engine with OEM length rods and 79mm stroke

What will my compression ratio be?
2.34L with STi heads: 9:1 Rev capable of over 9k rpm with supporting mods and high boost.

2.34L with 06+WRX heads: 9.7:1 Race gas or e85 use and 9000rpm revs.

2.5L with STi heads: 9.3:1 Perfect for daily e85 high boost use, race gas high boost or moderate boost (17psi) pump gas cars wanting more economy or pump gas cars running high boost with meth/water injection

2.5L with 06+WRX heads: 10.2:1 Low boost engines on pump gas, e85/race gas engines with moderate boost, N/A builds with Nitrous.

What can I expect from these pistons? Only the most power capable from your build. Example of a dyno graph with custom pistons similar to these:

So, there have been some people on here that have talked about doing the 2.34 destroker but keeping it NA because of higher red line but smoother operation. Now would these new pistons work for a NA with good supporting mods and something around 10.5:1 - 11:1 comp? Just asking, because other people would like to know too probably

With this group buy the available compression ratio is fixed and the pistons are what they are.
So for N/A applications, the S20 heads with a 49.5cc chamber would give you around 9.9:1. Other than that, SOHC RS heads would be 9.75:1. EJ20K heads with the 46.6cc chambers would be around 10.4:1.

I am all for trying out one of these motors in an N/A configuration at over 11:1 compression. I would recommend around 12:1

424g according to my sheet. The crown is over 1/4" thick. As you can see in the pictures they are very stout.

I wish these were 99.75 so I could use these on my good used case and hone to fit. I think they would be a little too loose on the PTW clearance after doing a light hone on my cylinders.

I might just have to pony up the dough for some one-off custom pistons

^ or just do it right with a new set of case halves which only run around $850 for piece of mind.

Dom, can you do these pistons in 101.5mm? I know John1BadSTi is looking for a set at this compression ratio but I am not sure what his final bore size will be (between 101-102 when he gets to it).

thanks for the post jeff we ordered the custom pistons(101mm 9 to 1) from cp today,my friend that owns the machine shop took care of me really well on them.I emailed Dom a short time back and he told me I should be around 9.5 to 9.7 to 1 with the d25 heads. When the pistons arrive they are going straight to calico to get coated and my acl brgs sets I had in stock are already on their way back from Calico.Sorry to hijack your thread dom.

I have them made about one thou bigger than off the shelf pistons. This gives people the ability to hone the block to fit the pistons instead of just being stuck with large clearances.

I can do custom pistons in any size, but for group buy price I need six buyers. For example I have four engines with 102.3 mm bores. wasn't enough for a group buy though.

John, sorry I wasn't able to help you on that build. I'm a little bummed that after all our talk I wasn't able to sell you my services. I understand though.

I appreciate any info from you Dom and have always held you with respect as one of the best out there. The reason my friend that owns Phillips Race engines takes care of me so well is because he gives me full use of all his machines to use myself and sponsors me with parts.I hope I did not offend you in any way or make you think less of me.If and when I do a destroked 2.5 I will get all the parts from you I promise.

Not offended at all. Just sad that I don't get the chance to work with you.

You seem like the kind of guy that would really appreciate the 2.34. When you build it you will be impressed with our level of care and engineering we put into these engines.

I would be in for a set at 100mm for my darton block. I bought it already bored to 100mm and prepped just needs to be built...we talked about using it for a build a couple months back.

2.34 destroked 2.5

So, since you would recommend at least 11:1 comp with these pistons with some of the options of the S20 head, the sohc rs head and the ej20k head would using the dual port 2.2 head from the 95 legacy with 1+ mm valves, 2k delta grind or equivalent cams, port and polish intake and exhaust ports using 92 or 93 octane work? Also, what would the possible comp be with this set up using an sti head gasket or a slightly thinner head gasket like 0.030? This is really starting to interest me about doing an N/A build

Why I am asking about the octane is because some of us who are interested in this might not be able to get anything higher than 92 or 93 octane due to location.

it could be cheaper. I'd have to Run the numbers to be sure, but off hand it could Possibly save you a couple hundred.

I would have jumped on this already except my sleeved block is already 100mm...and those CR with D25 heads are a little high for my 91 pump piss down here.

In for a GB with 100mm 9.0 and under CR tho
