Question How do you think the SCOOBY would do NASA or Speedvision?

Would love to see a CUSCO SCOOBY in one of these series.......someone needs to campain one so we could cheer for...What would it take to make it competitive????

Which Scooby?
Speedvision TC or (the series formerly known as) Motorola Cup allows both the Impreza and the Legacy.

The competition would be the Integra and the BMW 3xx. They'll make over 200 hp and probably closer to 250.

It would be fun to see a Legacy wagon racing, but it's too much car. The RS could get closer to minimum weight, its still going to be heavy.

The engine is another barrier-- to get 230hp, you'll have to screw it pretty tight.

So, that would it take to make a Subaru competitive?
1: Pray for rain or
2: Drop a race prepped 2.5 into a FWD Impreza or
3: Pull Richard Burns from the dirt.

You would be suprised how much wieght you can kill if you try.

I wonder what exactly is allowed. If you can go to a RWD with a sierra gear box, the Impreza would kick some real ass. Think of the motor moved back against the firewall, and much ligher tranny

And of course, this will only be on Speedvision? Damn I hate this country...

Also, what happened... did they allow AWD's in with weight penalties? I thought the BTCC got rid of them because even with weight penalties they were too fast.

ScoobySouth,

Thanks for your enthusiasm and support!

Shirts and hats aren't available yet. They will be shortly and we will let you know when it happens. We are focusing all of our energy on getting the car ready for the first race. As you know, this car is VERY new, and we got it just recently. We've still got a lot of work to do before next weekend.

As a new racing series, the USTCC can use all the exposure it can get. Tell your friends about this racing series and let's get as many people as we can excited about it. With enough growth and recognition, the series will definitly make the TV Guide.

Thanks,

Gary

8Complex,

The USTCC is a new racing series. This will be first year a turbo has entered and I think only the 2nd race an awd has entered. It's also the first time a turbo-awd has been entered

There is a press release on the USTCC site that talks briefly about this. We will have to carry a lot of weight. The rules of the series call for 13lbs per 1hp (stock engine output). With 227hp, we have to run at 2,951lbs. With the AWD we have to add 150lbs. Total weight is 3101lbs - heavier than stock.

Last years champion drove a Honda Del Sol which weighed in at 2085lbs. So we definitely have our work cut out for us.

We'll just have to see how it works out. We will be posting releases in the motorsport forum as the season progresses, so you will know how we're doing right up to the minute.

Thanks,

Gary

Great news Gary!!!! Best of luck to you, you'll be carrying the torch for the whole club... and I'm sure we will all support you!

8Complex, the USTCC is NOT the same as the Speedvision TC, so if it IS televised on Speedvision it will only be on as highlights...

I thought this was really cool. Here's a race series that we can actually watch here in the states that has a car we can actually get with parts we can actually buy.

I'm actually excited.

Thanks.

Say I noticed you are runnign w/o hood vents.

Is there a reason for it?

I was thinking they might make a big difference in keeping the car on the track as they would vent alot of air that would go under the car otherwise.

XT6Wagon,

The US WRX doesn't have hood vents. The rules of the USTCC mandate that we have to run stock body panels or composite panels of the same type. Can't cut vents into the hood or sides of the car.

The only areas that are really open are the nose under the bumper, the rear under the bumper, a deck wing and side skirts. We're hoping to have a splitter on by the 2nd race and we are looking at our options for this now.

Thumbs up

Hi Guys, The USTCC yellow Honda Del Sol is truly quick. NASA has ran an event in Las Vegas with us(TCRA) in October last year. However he crashed due to overly agressive driving. Gary is right, it will be tough to run a 3000lbs WRX against a 2000 lb souped Honda. However, I ran my WRX racer against 3 world challenge cars at Laguna Seca in January and beat all three. They were the #00 type R, Ken Dobson's E-46 Bimmer and a Saleen Mustang. However, I don't think that I have a chance for the WRX would have to run in the GT class instead of the Touring Car class. The top runners in the GT class are turning 1:35s at Laguna, while the best of my WRX could run a 1:42 there. With a super hot shoe, my car may be able to run 1:40? My WRX weighted in at 2500 lbs. Good luck guy with your new racer. TCRA2/Emil

TCRA2,

I happened to qualify that Del Sol on the pole at Las Vegas! Just to clarify what happened during the race, the driver of the Del Sol (Richard Holdener) hit the back of the Mazda when the Mazda checked up at the exit of a corner. Richard wasn't even trying to pass. He was checking his rearview mirror at the exit to see where 3rd place was, and as he looked forward, Albert was RIGHT THERE and there was nothing Richard could do.

Richard's a great driver and a close friend and I can't wait to race with him this year!

Gary, does the WRX have a top speed limiter? What size tires are you running? Are you going to run the bigger brakes/more weight combo or stock ones? Tell us about your setup or point us to your web site.

Gary, the WRX is electronically limited to 130MPH. What is legal under the USTCC rules is unrestricted engine management and removal of emissions equipment-- but not internal engine changes. Thus the reason Shiv is the crew chief-- tons of experience with EFI tuning, and not being a wrench-turner isn't an issue. So no, the race car won't be speed limited.

I bet Shiv will succeed in coaxing additional power to help make up for the weight penalty.

Good answer ColinL.

We are running 225/45/17 Hoosier R3SO3 tires on 17 x 7.5 inch wheels. With the negative camber we have dialed into the front, there are no clearance issues at all. In the rear, we have minor clearance issues with the fender lip because we are not running too much negative right now. We'll probably put it back in once we get the rear bar and race shocks in. We can run almost -4 up front and -3.5 in the rear.

The web site is lower on the list of priorities right now since we've only got 2 days before the first race of the year. We will be working on that after this weekend. I'll post the URL all through the i-club so that you guys can follow our progress and ask us questions.
