Default radiator fan ?s

on the 93-96 imprezas there is three wires - blue, black, and green.....on the newer imprezas 97-01 there is only 2 wires - blue, black- on the fan motor itself. anyone with a wiring book out there could tell me which color is what? is the green just a regulator wire??? thanks

AT least at Legacys there are three wires.

If there is a connector on Imprezas which has got three wires, one wire is negative and two positive.
If you look at the connector like this:

Negative on the left, the nail in the connector is up. Hope you understand my lousy English.

The meaning of the two positive wires are simply the low and high speed settings of the fan - the voltage on the other is lower.

If you read the wires from the left the nail pointing up, the order is - + +, if it is the same as with the Legacys.

If you have an voltmeter it shouldn't be hard to check, just try to get the fan running. Drain radiator with engine running - ummh ... NOT no no
