225/45s on a 9" wheel is pretty normal compared to many of the other setups in this thread. What prompted the comment this time?

The 17x9" +42mm Grids are shown on wheeldude.com as clearing the STi Brembos, so they would probably clear your AP / Rotora BBKs. Hard to say for sure, though.

And i'm still sitting on stock suspension too.
Coilover is my next project.
I'm thinking about 255/35:18 or 265/35:18.
This is just for daily driving to work and for vacation trip.

Actually, believe it or not, 255 will fit with stock struts and a roll in the back. It won't look the best, but it will fit. 265 could fit depending on the actual tire. I tried on my STI for fun.

Default Read the whole thread, but still not sure of the widest I can do

I've been reading this thread for a few weeks on and off as well as worldoneperformance blog, and t3hclap blog, rimtuck, other forums, wheel calculators, etc., and I am still not sure what is the widest I can go (I want the biggest possible contact patch without saggy sidewalls). I do not want to rub at all and don't really care for hellaflush. My car is a:
year: 2006
model: 2.5i
suspension: stock (must keep this suspension)
Alignment: stock (must keep this camber)
fender mods: Will roll rear fenders for this to work (do not want to roll front fenders bc I have read the liner falls off)

Can I do: 17 x 9.5 et 45 (or et44) 255/40/r17?

If not, can I do 17 x 9 et 47(or et48 or et45) 245/40/r17?

If not, I think I can do 17 x 8.5 (et 45, 47,48 or 50) 235/40/r17, right? In case 8.5 is the widest I can do, would all of these four offsets work? and which would you recomend? I have not picked out a wheel yet, but will choose one according the widest I can go.

I know this might be a hard one. Thanks in advance!

the +42's can fit wider. The only need for stretch is when its....needed. Needless stretch looks STUPID.

stretch is stupid. just a way to cause the most important safety feature (the tire) to fail

hey guys i have been doing a ton of research and am getting extremly agravated. i was wondering if 18x10.5+18 will work? i know i have to run negative camber and streatch tires but i dont wana buy ssr sp3 professors and have them look like crap. i would like to keep the strech as small as possile without rubbing to. thanks.

That is going to be pretty difficult.

They are littered on this forum. That fitment is so aggressive for a GD that if you don't already know how to make it fit, you won't be able to do it.

I've done similar fitments and...it's difficult.

Less talk, more pictures!

18x9.5 et25 Rotiform NUE with 225/40 ATR sports all around. Square set up, just for you sc00by4life

rears still need to come down a bit more, but right now the rear coils are seized into the lower receivers and I haven't had time to unstick them yet.

I've never ran such an aggressive fitment but, I'd guess -4 to -5 all around

Good luck and post pics!

Anyone know if a 255/40/17 tire will fit under GD fenders without fender pulling? I can roll, but not pull, and I'm on stock struts/eibach springs at the moment. No coilovers, so crazy camber isn't an option to help them fit. Wheels will likely be Drag DR-31 17x9 +38, but only if the 255's will fit. I'm just wondering because someone local is selling a bunch of RS3's in that size for cheap from his NC Miata, and I need new wheels/tires anyway

Did some research but can only find responses for cars with coilovers, STi's, or GR-chassis cars.

I'm running a 17x8 +48 with 245/40/17 and with my coilovers and a subtle drop I don't rub... Go with a 255/35/17 or you may VE ok cause the tire will have a hair of stretch

Not without a slight pull in the rear. If you had coilovers, you might be able to make it work with a rear roll - but thats super close.

Honestly, I'd just stay away from Drag/XXR/anything that is the VERY bottom of the barrel.

Your fitment, and his, are completely different.

And a 255/35/17? Really? thats TOO short.

Yeah, I'd really rather not consider Drag/XXR, but my grad student budget means they're the only wheels I can come anywhere close to affording that would fit those tires.

Thanks for the heads up! Sounds like I'll just be going back to my original plan from before I saw these tires for sale, of some 225/45/17's on a respectable 17x7.5.

Coilovers, fender roll, a lot of pulling, some way to adjust rear camber and ta-da!

I'm not really all that useful when it comes to wheels, but I think I've managed to figure out what I need. Just looking for clarification as I have a tendency to be confused/wrong.

I have a bone stock 2009 Wrx Sedan.

What I would like to do is put on 255 or 265 tires on 18" Rota grids, reading through tons of posts etc I have come to the conclusion that the rear will require a slight roll and I'll need coil overs. Is this correct or should something else be done? Any input at all would be appreciated. I'm not at all sure if the 265's will even fit on the grids.

Side note: that black STI with the 285's on it looked amazing!

Thanks,

-Mac

i'm, assuming 9.5" grids? to fit that much tire you'll definitely need a roll all around and at least a slight pull in the rear.

getting the camber in the rear will be tricky, probably need new LCA's.

Hey Noob Here i have a 08 Red wrx and i am looking a few different choices here one is a

18x8 +48 with a 225/40r18
or
17x8 +48 with a 215/45r17

both in bronze and they are rota torque which do you think would be ok with a stock suspension for now

18x8 +45 with 235/40 on my 2.5i with stock suspension:

Not quite flush but decently close to the fender without rubbing.
