Default Rolex grand-am series 2011 STI

I was watching the grand am racing last night and noticed there was a black 2011 STI sedan competing. They were doing really good too! It was right there in the mix of camaros and M3's.

Anybody have any info on that car?

The team also has a couple of threads up above in the press release subforum here in motorsports. This is actually their second year and second car...

the STi did run. the car went out early. Due to that fact i was unable to get multiple angles of the track but here are a few pictures from the event that i took. not the greatest shots but ive only had the camera from a few months.

The STI runs in the Continental Tire series, not Rolex. CT is the support race for the Rolex series. They ran earlier in the day. Both races were yesterday (Sat.).

You must be watching the Rolex series which is not the series the STI is running in. They are running in the Continental Sports Car Challenge both series are under the Grand-Am name.

Expect it to be televised next weekend as usually is the case.

they DNF'd. just found out they broke a front strut by being hit in the same spot a few times, which is unfortunate because they were in the top 10 like 6th or something.

Subaru Driven mag did a cool write up on them. It is Phoenix Performance, from PA. Andrew Aguilante is the driver. The Aguilante has a long history in SCCA and pro racing. They did some GM Showroom Stock SCCA racing, with John Heinricy, and were a top notch team. Now that JH is retired from GM, he is on the Pheonix team as a consultant.

It is on Sunday, 7/17 at 1:00 PM Eastern on SPEED. They had new electronics in the car for this race, and the backfire on upshifts (new for Laguna) made it really easy to tell when it went past you. It was smoothed out a bit for the race, but was horrendously loud for the Thursday and Friday practices.

I watched them run at VIR back a couple of months ago. Car looked good.

I assume they limit the HP and weight. It seemed like it needed a little more hp to
compete with the rest of the field. Maybe they were having a bad weekend, but it seemed
like they were getting passed by everyone.

Power restrictions. The awd helps Alot in the slower parts of the track but the m3's and other v8's walk away in the straights. Saw them in daytona.

The Subaru got a boost increase after Daytona, and a weight reduction after Watkins Glen. In general, it is much more competitive at the low grip tracks and tracks where handling is at a premium, like Lime Rock, Barber, and Laguna. I expect that they will be good at NJMP, and very strong at Mid-Ohio.
