Post Cherokee Ramblings

After two days of the twistiest and muckiest roads I've ever seen, we managed to drag the Alltrac up to 22nd place. The only problem is, there are only 29 cars left. Let's just say we're not doing too well...

Anyway, I met a bunch of the i-Club guys working controls and in the service areas. It's really cool that so many Subaru enthusiasts get involved with rally. I've seen about 20 RSs altogether.

I'l post more when I get back. Wish me luck for tomorrow--looks like I'm going to need it!

Just got back from TN. In the end we moved up a few places and finished 17th, just a few hundredths from 16th. We finally got it together on the final day, and I turned a 10th fastest and an 11th fastest on the first two stages on Saturday.

By the end of the second-to-last stage, I had no brakes at all. I managed to stop just before the finish control, but it was close. At the same time I noticed that the right front corner made a "thunk" noise with every bump. The strut top had unthreaded itself and there was about an inch of free play. I went very easy through the final stage and we figured we were lucky to finish.

That was us in the upper level of the Days Inn Jon, laughing

indeed! The service truck burned up one of its two fuel pumps and died right in front of the hotel. Brad Hawkins Suburban has a 454 in it, so it had no trouble towing the truck and the rally car. We rented a Budget rent-a-truck and serviced from that until the local Ford dealer could get the obscure little pump in stock.
