Post Mitsubishi to import EVO VII in 2003

A friend who's in the know with Mitsubishi says it'll be here next year. Seems that Subaru has raised the bar and Mitsu is taking notice. That's all I've heard.

Read the paper in Canada today. (Toronto star to be exact)..they say the Mitsu will have a WRC based Lancer Evo...but don't expect it to have the 2.0L turbo engine.

Their words, not mine.

Mitsu is renaming the Mirage "lancer" next year. this doenst mean we will get a EVO model. this has been gone over several times in the general forum. (im not flaming, just sayin that this is a hot topic these days it seems.)

but dont forget what everyone here is driving for the moment. a RS ( or comethign close) thats just a watered down WRX. if they bring a watered down EVO here to "test the waters" they will see the folowing and do the same thing that Subaru is doing and bring us a REAL (or as close to it as they can) car

I'm almost positive that the 280hp version won't make it over here. Even if it passes emissions at 280hp, no gasoline in North America has enough octane to be good to that engine. Japan and Europe have i think gas with octane as high as 102.

Detuned to around 230, maybe. 280, nuh uh.

Better count on not seeing the turbo here. I have heard the smae thing that they will bring it but it will probably not be turbo'd.

Yes, the Lancer name will re-appear in the States in the next few years...the EVOLUTION...maybe...not in full JPN "kill for one" spec aka electronically controlled differential specs for tarmac, gravel & snow, active yaw control, lightweight RS version but there will be a performance version.

Mitsu is actively trying to get it DOT/EPA certified but the front mounted intercooler is causing problems because of our more strict front crash standards. I'm confident that they'll have it ironed out soon.

Here's my prediction:

230 - 250 bhp
2.0L turbo
AWD - no active diffs/stability control

If Subaru has 227bhp, Mistu isn't gonna release something less powerful...

I'm hoping for either the EVO VII to come here or an STi version of the WRX in a few years so I can have both the RS & a new faster toy...unless I turbo the RS then I'll have two fast toys...hehehe

Guys, This is not some pie-in-the-sky, overheard at a bar story. I'm telling you its the EVO VII, not some watered-down n/a renamed Lancer! You'll see.

Bullcrap. The boys in command of DCX-Mitsubishi back in Germany are REDUCING the number of models to bring them back to profitability, not launching a very expensive homologation car in the US.

And I might add if they run WRC class and forget about Group N, they don't NEED the Lancer Evolution to rally. The regular 1.6L FWD is sufficient.
