Hey everyone, welcome to my 2006 STI build thread. This is my first Subaru. The goal of my car is to make a good looking, quick, great handling street car.
I purchased this car from it’s original owner in November 2010. The original owner was selling it to get a BMW Z4 M. This car is pretty much in perfect shape, with no modifications, except for the SPT short shift kit, and OEM subwoofer. It had only 32,000 miles. The PO even told me “no one has ever sat in the back seat.” But that’s pretty hard to believe. Here’s a pic from the drive home. The PO gave me the car running on fumes, how nice of him! ![]() Current list of mods: Engine: PERRIN 1 piece downpipe with high flow cat PERRIN 3" catback PERRIN equal length header PERRIN standard size up pipe PERRIN FMIC with custom teal powdercoat PERRIN short ram intake with custom teal powdercoat Custom pro tune using COBB AccessPORT Prototype PERRIN oil cap PERRIN radiator shroud with custom teal powdercoat Suspension: H&R street coilovers H&R rear camber bolts PERRIN 25mm sway bar PERRIN front endlinks PERRIN 25mm rear sway bar with HD bushing mounts(pics coming soon) PERRIN rear endlinks Work Emotion XT-7 18 X 9.5 + 38 Work lug nuts blue 245/40 18 Falken Azenis 615K Interior: PERRIN prototype shift knob SPT short shift JDM squash air freshener PERRIN shifter bushings PERRIN prototype rear bushing Last edited by PERRIN_Chris; 08-12-2011 at 01:53 PM. |

I immediately started adding parts, the first thing I added was a pretty standard part, the PERRIN intake, and brake stiffy. I was surprised how much more sound the intake added! The brake stiffy has always been a favorite part of mine, partly for the name, partly because I like stiff a brake pedal.
![]() ![]() Next I added the PERRIN turbo back and custom pro tune on our dyno. That helped make the car wake up quite a bit. When I gun it, my gf says it feels like her stomach gets left behind! After I got this, the STI was so fun to drive, I just wanted to find an excuse to drive around and feel the new power! I made about 325 WHP and 350 FT LBS on our Dynapack dyno. After that, I added the PERRIN up pipe and equal length header. That helped make a lot of power! I was surprised, without even doing a tune. (new tune will be coming soon though) Recently I added the PERRIN front and rear 25mm swaybars with stoutmounts. I hate driving on stock suspension, but since the H&R street coilovers are out of stock, at least this helped stiffen the ride a little, and improve handling quite a bit. Sorry there's no pics, I've been slackin! Today I worked on installing a PERRIN FMIC. My boost tubes are getting powdercoating, so I installed the core for now. Running two intercoolers is awesome! :busted: Yes, I am still running the stock turbo, for now!:busted: ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Thanks Drew, updates coming up soon, new wheels and H&R coilovers are installed, along with the boost tubes, and a couple other parts. Fenders are being rolled on Friday too!

Finally I have an update!
The coilovers I installed are the H&R street coilovers. These are perfect coilovers for the street and occasional track use. They have progressive springs which gives the car much better ride quality than linear race race springs, which come on just about every other coilover. The H&Rs actually have travel! Also stock top hats are used, which keeps the sound and harshness down. The wheels I ended up getting are Work XT7 18 X 9.5 + 38. I wanted to go with a lower offset, good thing I didn't! There's pics below. Tires I have are Falken Azenis 615K 245/40 18. I love these tires, they're super grippy, look really cool, and are really confidence inspiring. I really want to get my car to track! These first pics were from the night of the coilover install, sorry I didn't take too many pics, we were at the shop till about 10 after work doing the FMIC, coilovers, and brakes. ![]() ![]() ![]() Wish I could have kept it at this height, but I had a few rubbing issues. ![]() This is just from driving home. ![]() Here's some current pics: ![]() I want to lower it a little more in the back, but I'm still having some rubbing issues in the rear, even after some rolling and pulling about half an inch. Looks like I may have to use t3h_Claps fender roll method! ![]() I ended up powdercoating the boost tubes this teal color, it's one of my favorite colors. I really wanted something different. We also did the intake and the new radiator shroud to match. ![]() What do you guys think? |

This weekend I actually did a quite a bit of work. First I recently got the Work lug nuts to go with my wheels. I think they look pretty good. They match the valve stems, which is cool.
![]() ![]() I’ve had the Killer B oil pick up for a few months now, and was waiting to install it at my next oil change. My car only has just under 40,000 miles on it, so I wasn’t worried yet, (there’s a local guy with about 70,000 miles on his 06 STI that had his split!) but I thought it’d be a good idea to get it on as soon as I could. It wasn’t hard to install, but it was time consuming. First I drained the oil. ![]() Then removed the header and lifted the engine a few inches to get to the rear bolts on the oil pan. Not the recommended way to do this, but it worked. ![]() ![]() Then installed the pick up, and put everything back together. Fortunately, I don’t have any oil leaks. *Crosses fingers* ![]() I put in the Shell Rotella 5W40, since I’ve been hearing a lot of good things on the forums and seeing oil analysis on Bobistheoilguy.com. I could only find them in gallon jugs at Auto Zone, for about $27, pretty spendy! At least it should last at least 6,000 miles. Sunday we retuned the car. We haven’t tuned it since it had just the PERRIN intake, downpipe and catback. It made some pretty good power, about 330WHP and 375FT LBS!!!! It feels really good now. ![]() Here's a pic of me trying to figure out how to use windows. ![]() ![]() This dyno compares my car from back in January with the PERRIN intake to where it's at now after the newest tune. ![]() I’m not sure what I want to do next, any ideas? I'm thinking turbo inlet hose lip, wingless trunk and maybe seats? |

Thanks imprezgc8!
Sorry for slackin guys, the latest I've done is installing a wideband. ![]() Big things may be coming the next few weeks though. My birthday is coming up soon, so I hope to have a little extra $ to spend on upgrades. |

When I was on vacation in late October, Jeff did me a favor and installed a rotated kit with a GT3076.63 turbo for me when I was gone! I still have the stock injectors, so I'm just running off wastegate boost right now. We retuned it last weekend, I'm making less power than I was with the stock turbo. Hopefully I'll be getting injectors soon to make some good power!

Yes, I'm very fortunate. Can't wait for the POWAH!! Tired of running less torque than the stock turbo, but like all the cool sounds with the rotated kit.

So what has happened to your car since November? When are you going to get the Injectors? I know a Place in Hillsboro, Oregon that Sells Injector Dynamic Injectors,
if you speak with the Owner he might be able to hook you up |

My car has kind of been on hold for a few months now, I know it's kind of sad. We actually sell Injector Dynamics injectors here now, so that's not a problem.
I have my mind set on something coming out from Subaru that is rear wheel drive, and that is kind of holding me back from putting anything more into this car for now. |

That makes sense. I now see that both you and Jeff are interested in the BRZ. are you going to wait until the STi version that they have been showing as a "Concept" or are you going for the 2.0l version? |

I'm going to wait and see, the only way I would wait for an STI version is if it had more power, since the BRZ comes pretty well equipped from the factory, even with nice seats! From what I've read, they don't seem like they're planning on coming out a BRZ with more power, but they could be saying that so people don't hold back buying the first model.
