Question Downshift "Knock"

I have a question that has been bugging me since I got my car. I bought a MY01 2.5RS about a month ago. I notice that when I downshift from, say, gear 3 @ 2500RPM to gear 2 @ 3500RPM, I hear a knocking sound coming from the car. I dump the clutch significantly while giving it significant gas. Is this normal for AWD cars. I figure it is the differentials getting all that power at once, or it is the wheels lokcing in. Could someone identify this for me?

Define knocking, cuz if you down shift, you should try to blip the throttle to try to match the engins speeds, maybe that'll help.

I am definately not qualified to really diagnose this, as I'm only a month into my car as well, BUT, I had a similar noise that was audible on both upshifts (1-2,2-3) and down shifts (3-2).. Mine was not the bassy thud you get from a heavy-handed (footed?) shift, but a metalic click.. turned out to be the heat shield rattling with the flex of the exhaust pipping. Don't know if this is anything like your problem, but it's worth a trip to your dealer regardless to put your mind at ease.. Enjoy

Thanks for the advise.

The "knock"ing sounds like the two pieces of hard metal being slammed together. I am thinking it may be the wheels or differentials engaging harshly, but I am not sure. When I go to the dealer to get it checked out, I will post again, just in case anyone else has this problem.

I talked to my dealer's service department and they said that the "knock" was the sound of the transfer cluch engaging. I drove my sister's Civic Si and it made a similar sound, but it was not nearly as prominent. I was told it was due to the AWD system.
