Post autocross results from this weekend? post here!

This was the Wichita Region SCCA's first official event. Results are here . I took 4th in Street Open-- a regional class-- and was beaten by Miatae, of which the 1st place one was supercharged. This class is street tires, but I think anything goes. I ran street tires because the lot is small and sandy and I didn't want to waste my R compounds.

Also didn't have my tein coilovers in yet due to some delays at Cobb Tuning with camberplates. Hopefully soon.

The course designer did a great job of making due with a tough lot, it was a blast. Except for the overheating problem, but you can read about that here .

So how did you all do?

Rock on!

I enjoyed a nice quiet weekend. No autocross, just rain and gravel on a Saturday night. Ahhh... ain't life grand? Did I mention the college women's gynastics meet I went to?

Glad to hear Auto-X is going well for you. Those miatae are tough. And supercharged... that's not a fair fight.

Jewbaru and I took 1 & 2 in STS here in STl region! First event had 164 cars show up! 5 heats, and Joel and I walked away with trophies first event of the year! Now that is the way to start out the season.

One of my buds from Omaha went to the DVRSCCA event at DMACC in Des Moines and took second in G stock.. he actually beat the Ford Probe that he's been so worried about since last season. I think it is 'cause I took off his intake silencer.. that's all it took!! j/k. Nah, He's becoming a great driver and I just wish my car shifted as smoothly as his does.. my clutch must be worn.

Thanks - Jon

well i ran my first autox this weekend. Atlanta Region's first
saturday, my first run was a DNF, got lost on the course.
2nd - 64.83
3rd - 62.xx plus one
4th - 60.183
not bad i think... only have a K&N and 18mm sway with RE92+26,000 and a previous bad alignment.
Sunday,
ran same course backwards
1st - 68.xx
2nd - 65.35
3rd - don't remember but had Skidplatez in the car and was a slower time.
4th - 62.xx
not as good as i wanted for sunday. i did better on saturday than i hoped (thought mid-60's would be good)

we had 2 RS's on saturday, me and Steven Suanders (?)
Sunday 5, 4 competing
me, scooby, a white one (sorry forgot your name), Skidplatez, a 1.8 Impreza, and a new 300mile old WRX (did not run.
don't know how everyone else ran but it was awesome!!!

I took my WRX out yesterday at our event. Ran in GS, stunk pretty bad. From what I used to drive, the WRX felt bloated and slow. The boost seemed to come on at the worst possible moments for me. Some R compound would have been nice as well. Nothing like a AWD car with no grip...

Yesterday in Orlando at the CFR-SCCA autocross:
Me (Opie
wrxwannabe
SUV-ETR & RS Chic
BlueRidgeRS
Jeff
SubieFL
Subi Chick
Bobalouy
all came out!
Jeff took 1st in STS with a 34.141
I took 2nd in STS with a 34.486
SUV-ETR took 1st in GS with a 33.518
wrxwannabe took 3rd in GS
and RS Chic took 4th in GS.
Way to go everyone!
We also saw a BRP Sedan at the PepBoys we had to go to...long story, let's me just say - wheel studs.

Both GS and STS were very large classes, I believe GS had 9 entries and STS had 8!

Hope to see more Subie domination at the next event!

My first Auto-x.
GS
Run 1 -- DNF
Run 2 -- DNF
Run 3 -- 74.2

I finally figured out what I was messing up on when I did the second run.

Not a great showing, but I'm happy with it. I actually shaved over 5 seconds off my time from the previous two runs (I was in the 80's).

Brian, if you didn't have a chance to ride along with a more experienced driver I think that will help immensely. Also be sure to walk the course with a vet, they'll show you what to look for and soon it will all make perfect sense. And of course, have someone experienced ride with you and offer pointers during and/or after the run depending on what they prefer and what works for you.

In short, stick to the experienced folks like glue and you'll improve quickly if you put effort into it.

(assuming your region allows passengers-- some don't for who knows what reason.)

I felt like I brought a knife to a gunfight at the SCCA Nat. Tour at Qualcom Stadium, But I STILL had a blast!

There were 11 entries in Street Mod. 3 Audi S4's, 2 M3's, 2 Civics, 1 Acura, 1 WS6, 1 Comaro z28 and moi.

Saturday I had a brain fart on my fastest run and hit the second to last cone!
Times according to SCCA web site for Sat were as follows:
86.019 85.466 85.687(1)!!!!!!! Darn it Which put me in tenth place overnight.

Sunday
73.125 71.762 71.195

If ANY of you guys are thinking of running in Street Mod at the Nat. in Topeka, and are hoping to trophy.... Better spend some $$$$$$$ The Audi s4 that finished 2nd spent $6000 on BRAKES ALONE!! I don't EVEN want to know how much the M3 had wrapped up in his car!
Don't these people know that there are NO scouts for Ferrari or Mclaren out at the autox's?

Oh I know SM = Spend Money. It's the class I fit into though as a modified street driven car.

Exactly how were you slower than most of STS on Saturday though? Doesn't look like Sunday's results are online yet... Where did you end up?

Colin, It's called head-up-assites disease!
First run brakes faded after using them the third time (stock pads in STI 4 pods) and banging revlimiter for too long in second gear at about 4 or 5 places on the track. (I think at this particular track I would have been much faster on the larger dia Khumo's that I was on the Hoosiers, because I would not have had to shift out of and back into second so many times) EGT's were high so I set my settings richer and decided to try shifting into 3rd gear earlier... It would have worked but I set the fuel too rich and the car would not pull from mid to high RPM on the second run also missed the downshift once (WOW, what a concept) Third and final "try" I was almost 2 sec's faster after leaning the fuel mixture out, and did the shifting same way (missed the up shift this time) as I did in the second run. Coming out of a long off camber RH sweeper into the final slalom I tried to dab the brakes with my left foot after the apex to keep the car turned in... pedal went to the floor and my left foot got stuck between the clutch and brake pedals... I got it "unhooked" but was WAY late entering the slalom..... I clipped the second to last cone.

I Hate brain farts!!

Second day was MUCH better, but I corded LF on the second run. It's called "Do not continue to steer into the turn if the car does not want to turn" ONE MO FART!

ColinL,
Our region allows passengers only for the situation which you mentioned, getting pointers from a vet. My mistake was running in the first heat. Next time I'll run in the second heat and see if one of my Subie owning friends will let me ride with them as well as do a walk-through with them.

At this auto-x I followed along with the Rookie crowd as the Novice Chief took us on a walk-through. I only heard about half of what she said, and couldn't see the track very well with all the people around me. I did do a second walk-through on my own. My problem was just that I didn't understand that one part was an optional slalom, so I didn't slalom. I wasn't the only one who did that, either. On the second run it dawned on me where I went wrong right after I passed the spot. It was just a matter of a Novice needing to learn what the different cone setups mean. That just happened to be the one I missed.

Another problem was that there were 164 cars entered, and that was about 64 more than they had planned for. So we were experiencing some time crunch. I had to get my tires aired, my numbers on, junk out of my car, etc. Now that I know what to expect, I'll be able to be more prepared for the next event. I'll even bring a hat and sunblock so I don't get sunburned next time! I'm in mild pain. I think my eyes are the most irritated even though I had sunglasses on. A hat with a bill would've helped. Live and learn.

The results are up. Figuring the PAX multipliers in, I placed 152nd out of 161. Woohoo! I even have a Corvette and a couple Miatas below me. Makes up for being last in my class.

Brian

And not too far above me was a Shelby Cobra. I think I saw that guy when I was working the second heat. My mother drives faster than that. So how'd he get above me? I guess that gives me a big opportunity to become most improved rookie. Start out crappy, and move on up.
