don't waste your money on a brand new car now. Crap, I'm 21, and I wish I didn't buy my car when I did (20). Stay with a beater for a couple reasons

a: they're more fun, in sense...well, the stupid high school driving like an idiot sense (I'm not knocking it, cause I did it too)

b: all your friends will be on par with you for cars, so they won't make you drive everywhere

c: save money for when you will need it. college. you go broke fast there.

d: jealous other high school kids, of which there will be many, won't be afriad to physically trash your car.

but if you don't heed my advice, good luck! and have fun!

the problem being though, that he may not understand the value of $10,000 since he gained it so (relatively) easily.

hopefully he does, and will take good care of the car, and be as responsible as a 16 year old can be.

have fun kid, but not too much fun.

you think breaking your leg is easy money? yeah right. Easy money is me sitting playing vid games and doing some tech work while i ring in the bucks...Oh and by the way i am 16y/o and 8months. I got my car in jan of this year. Oh and don't mod the car straight of the lot cuz i myself don't even need all the power that is in the rs. I'm trying to hold back the urge but ya know how long that's gonna last...

Well, good luck with your new 2.5RS.

If I could give you one bit of advice (as a guy who got a 2.5RS and proceeded to wreck it and do other stupid teenager things with it,) I would say that the car is best viewed as an investment. A bad investment which loses thousands of dollars per year, but an investment nonetheless.

Would you place 14,000 at risk because you need to have a measuring contest with the guy in the other lane? Or because you need to shift lanes RIGHT NOW and can't wait?

The way I see it, I'm going to refrain from trashing my investment except at designated investment-trashing areas. Go to an autocross. You'll love it, and it's safer than doing anything on the street.

Good luck! It's a great car. We all know that.

ok, about the whole "high schooler thing", i will drive the car responibly. it will be kept in my garage. i walk to school (.25 miles). if i do get a ticket the car is taken away. I do understand the whoel $13k thing, i do work for everyhting else in my life. I already have enough in stocks to pay my way thru college($75k good enough?) O! i am in the mid-atlantic forum... i posted about the skyline drive meet on sunday. i am goign to test my new baby out!

ok.. if you want the money for a broken leg.. DON'T DO IT! most of you actually work, so i would adives against it! i was liek 12 at the time so i basicly just played with my lego's to past the time. not only that, but if you break your leg, you won't be able to drive your RS or WRX for a few months. I understand the importance of safety people, i won't go more then 5 mph above the speed limit unless i am in a pack. trust me on this.. i can do it.. i have had too many friends hurt in car crashes to relize that go fast means certain injury. i am actually scared to go to the meet cause i don't want people thinking i drive to slow. but hey, i will have some fun with it... at an auto-X of course! see all you NOVA people on sunday!

P.S. i will baby this car, so don't worry about me not taking care of it...

Well I guess I'll be the one to go for the biggest spoiled brat award. I'm only 17 and I'm going to be getting a brand new 2001, maybe 2002 Honda S2000! I am paying for 20 grand of it though so that only leaves the parents another 13K to take care of. BTW I got the 20 grand selling crack to the local pre-schoolers

bluey- I'm 18 right now and in high school (only 2 more weeks till I graduate though ). If your school is anything like mine, your school's parking lot isn't worthy of having a Subaru park in it.

High schoolers get jealous, are immature, and don't respect others' possessions. If your car is one of the nicer ones on the lot, it's just asking for destruction! In the past three years, I've driven to school 3 times. That was enough for me.

For all new Impreza owners, I'd recommend attending a performance driving school or heading out to an auto-x. It allows you to learn the limits of your skills and your tires, and helps you get rid of the "go fast" urge when you are on the street. Younger drivers in particular have staggering accident rates, and such a learning experience will go far in making you a safer driver. If I had gotten a WRX when I was 16 I'm pretty sure I'd be dead. I'm glad I started in a beater 1980 F150 farm truck .

Lets see.....I got my car on April 21st, first Sunday of April Vacation in my senior year in HS. Think that day was important to me? lol.

I was qualified for the Air Force SOC, Combat Controller to be exact, and well Uncle Sam doesnt like it when you have plates and screws inserted into your body... Oh well....I bought the car to fill the void. I dont regret it at all. I love it, as I am sure you will to. I bought my own car too, and dude you will take more care of it and appreciate it more because you had to bust you a** to get it. Congrats and enjoy it in good health. If we ever meet I will put a $1.00 bill in it for good luck! An old Italian thing that its good luck as long as it stays in the car, bad luck if spent. I have $12 in ones in my ash tray... Congrats and have fun man.

Joe
