Question Which should I get: MRT header with or without cat?

It seems Vivid offers both, with a $110 difference for the addition of the high flow cat. Will it be obnoxious without the cat?

thanks-

rob

I have found other vendors that only offer it with the cat for @ $330........

I just want to find the best deal (as does everyone else) and the cat issue has begun to confuse me. I know I will get more airflow without the cat and I don't have to worry about emissions testing, but will it be out rageously loud or stinky? It is going to be combined with a custom midpipe and STi exhaust can.

Thanks for any help!

I think if you order just the headers it will bolt to your current cat unless your going to have the custom pipe done all the way to the headers in which case it maybe loud. Slap on some resonators and you'll be ok ! hopefully. I ordered mine from vivid by the way with a cat and shipped came out to ~370. not bad considering I was going to order from another place that wanted 440. If you found it for 330 go for it.

With no cat be prepared for a constant CE light.

Personally, I care just enough about the environment to spend the extra money on the cat.

I am thinking of the environment as well...I just wanted some opinions. I don't really know a whole lot about the issue in general.

No worries...

The 2.5RS has two O2 sensors...one in front of the cat, one behind. The one in front is the important one but the one behind is there for a purpose...to tell you and your car if your cat is working well. With high flow cats people will get a CE light because the car gets confused by the larger volume of air flowing through...and thinks there is something wrong with the cat. So the result is people like me get an occasional CE light. With no cat...that light will always be on.

How about having a high flow cat put on locally? It can't be more than $110. Would it work as well as an MRT high flow cat or are there differences between the two?

Thanks-

Even a generic hi flow cat will cost about $100 before install.

By the way new tests have shown that cats are good for the environment but deplete the Ozone much worse then a car with no cat. Or maybe its the other way around.

As much as I love MRT the Cat that comes with the Brullen system crushes MRT's. As much as I like the Brullen Cat I feel a 2 in 1 out cat would flow better then both of them.

dcrawford-just to clarify the Cat Efficiency CE light is normally attributed to the rear o2 sensor not detecting the proper cat operating temperature which is caused by too much exhaust flowing throught the cat not allowing it to get hot enough, or the cat beeing too far away from the engine. I'm sure there are a few other reasons also
