How will these hold up with daily driving all year with the salt and snow? I'm about to pass 80,000 miles on my car and I'm looking for a suspension set-up that only needs minimal up keep. I only track my car once or twice a year.

Question...

"With the springs installed there is approximately 1.75" to 2" of travel. When the struts are unloaded (i.e. no springs) there is around 6" of travel."

This is slightly confusing to me as, the damper travel (or stroke length) should be the same whether the springs are installed or not.

I ask because I asked them about stroke length directly, and they told me 2", which instantly piled them in with all the other cheap crap out there with no usable travel. However, if the total stroke length is 6", then that's a different animal altogether.

To me, the total stroke length is the difference between full extension and the farthest point you can compress it to. All that needs noted is whether the farthest point of compression includes the bumpstop or not. Whatever number you get, you then use springs on it that have that much travel or more before coilbind.

how would you say these compare to bc racing br or isc n1 coilovers? would you say the fortune autos are more durable against salty winters? i'm interested in using them for daily/spirited driving but i don't have a garage so cleaning them won't be possible for months at a time.

I spoke with Terry at Fortune Auto this morning to clear this up once and for all. What he said was that on average their coilovers have 2" of travel, but that's because that's normally how it is on other cars that don't need as much stroke as a WRX. He went out and measured the total travel on the 02-07 WRX coilovers for me and said the front stroke is 3.5" and the rear is 4". He also said that all the Subaru coilovers have similar travel.

Sorry for the confusion with our previous post - it was just a miscommunication with Fortune on our part. I'll be editing it to reflect the figures he just gave me.

PM sent, but as far as weather goes, they should be fine as long as you rinse them off periodically with the wheels. Check out what another user said in our IWSTI group buy thread:

So, to answer my earlier question, it looks Fortune's offering is better than the average coilover in the same price range, but for almost double the price you can get almost double the suspension travel out of TiC's SST coilovers. Unless the measurements are significantly different for Fortune's STi coilovers, I'll probably just save up for TiC's SST coilovers, but to each their own. Given the price points, both look like solid options.

One last question about that... Was that 3.5/4.0" to the bumpstop or to the internal limit of the damper?

Or, if he measured the amount of exposed shaft from the shoulder, was that measured to the bumpstop or the top of the damper body?

Sorry if I seem particular, but it is important.

Again, sorry for all the confusion about the travel specs. I'm glad we've got definitive numbers now.

Indeed, Fortune is offering better travel compared to other coilovers in the same range, and a lot of other really nice features you don't see with other coilovers. Even compared to the SST coilovers, Fortune has preload-independent height adjustment and forged one piece lower mounts, for example. It's up to each customer to decide what will work best for them

The measurements were from full extension to the top of the bump stop, not to the internal damper limit. And always feel free to ask questions - we're glad to help out

It varies from car to car and driving style. We try to recommend settings that will suit each person's needs and existing mods. If you'd like to get our opinion on a spec for your car, please send us a PM with your model and year, what you do with the car, and how you like it to handle and we'll do our best to recommend spring rates that will suit you

It's pretty unlikely but we'll get a definitive answer tomorrow.

Yes, it should work fine. The Outback Sport is pretty much the same as the regular 08 Impreza so all the mounting points are the same.
