Default Samsung Galaxy Tab v10.1...?

Ok....so I'm looking to get a tablet...I dig the ipads but I'm already android and I'm working on a greenscreen photo application that rocks with android using the built in camera.

So who has a Samsung Galaxy Tab v10.1 and do you dig it...?

I'm looking at the 16gig....wifi only. I know it's got one of the best built-in cameras and is 3mp but is it that decent? From the specs I've read I'm assuming the photos are fine as long as there is enough light in the room or on the subject.

...and where the hell do I get one for a good deal...so far they're all the same price.

Thoughts??

I have the asus transformer.

exceedingly less expensive than the samsung ($399), and it is vanilla android (honeycomb), not any of those silly skins, touch flow, or whatever.

specs are comparable to the samsung, haven't used the camera on it, I've got a cell phone for that

and OT sucks balls.

i work at bestbuy and that one seems to be taking off slow from what i hear (i work in car audio install so idk for sure), however from my experience the main selling feature is it's thickness (or lack there of). only problem with said thickness is that they ditched the sd card slot which was the one reason i liked android tablets in comparison to my ipad. the tablet itself is sturdy, responsive, and if you're dead set on android it would most likely be the best pick. also, unlike other honeycomb tablets, the new tab ships with version 3.1, not 3.0

oh, and ipad battery life FTW. i haven't charged my ipad in a week and its still kickin'

I knew there'd be a thread in OT but didn't feel like weeding through the attitude for the real info....

Sam that's the other tablet I've been eye-ing...the rear camera is 5mp...not bad...the front facing is 1.2mp...and dig the optional keyboard/batt...

Kolten...right on man...yeah I was diggin' the SD port since I do media related shizz for a living...not a deal breaker but it'd be easier. So you can hook me up the best buy discount for cash right??

bahaha j/k

Asus Transformer is the only Android tablet I'd consider at this point. I still don't like it more than my iPad2 though.

Also the Transformer 2 is expected to drop late this year just in time for Xmas and will be SUBSTANTIALLY more powerful than the present transformer (Quad-core Tegra3 1.5ghz and possibly 2gigs of RAM). So I would honestly hold out for that if you can.

Staples just had 100$ off coupon for any Tablet but I believe it's expired. Good luck

i work at 357 in pasadena

and Tre, unfortunatley we don't really get discounts on any "computers" and i'm pretty sure nothing off on the tablet either. i know there was nothing off on my ipad or my macbook pro

oh, and fwiw, i have been pro apple forever, and recently switched from an iphone to a motorola atrix (dual core tegra 2, 1 gb ram, etc etc) although the specs of my motorola are better than that of my iphone, it seems that the Android OS is just too beta to take advantage of it fully. there are much less glitches on my iphone and my ipad.

oh, and one other note, we also have tablets with full size usb 2.0 so you can transfer all of your photos from your external hard drive over to the tablet really easy.

You'll never get a discount on Apple's products. Those prices are set in stone by them. I know when Verizon got the Iphone's people at work who have company paid phones started asking for them but there are no discounts given for any of their products.

Wife just got an Ipad2 and she loves it. It's pretty slick from the few times I've messed with it.

the only thing we don't get discounts on are the actual computers/ipads

I have to agree... I have tested the iconia and several others and tho android rocks on phones....it is still very young with tablets. Honeycomb needs time to mature and the manufacturers are not rolling out updates nearly fast enough.

If you do buy an android tablet.. Make sure it can be unlocked and make sure there are some good Roms for it.

Keeping in mind that a number of apps still have not been optimized for honeycomb

Out of the mentioned tabs i liked the iconia and the ipad the best....i went cheap thou and went with a rooted nook color...

I despise Samsung. Tons of issues like overheating worst battery life and weak radios

Agreed. I used to be a huge Samsung supporter, to the point that my big TV, surround sound, Blu-ray, and bedroom TV are all Samsung. But their quality control has started to fall off, and they've started to sacrifice quality by adding more gimmicks.

Even though people tend to hate it because of its maker, the iPad is still the best game in town. I barely use my laptop now because my iPad 1 does everything it does except for burn things to CD/DVD. Every other tablet maker is still playing catchup.

Indeed. I bought 5 tablets ...ended up returning all but the nook.

The iconia might work well for you...the fact that it had us support for an external drive was just plain awesome

I am planning on revisiting that one now that it can be unlocked and weaknesses can be corrected by the user

I work for Samsung. The best thing I have to say about the 10.1 is the screen quality and speed.

oh awesome no doubt...until the screen drains the battery or the processor overheats and the thing shuts down

So mr. samsung...where is the galaxy s2...huh huh... hahahaha

I do have to say...the 10.1 being brand new and all I have not tried it...I am speaking solely of my experience with other devices over the past two years.

I am taking back my Samsung infuse tonight after less than a month.

overheating
bad gps
bad wifi
bad bluetooth
awful headphone jack (low volume)

I love the super AMOLED screen...but I can only tell a difference when I have two devices side by side.

Hell we took back out plasma after less than a week..

My brother has had nothing but problems from his fancy $3k fridge

I just haven't had good experiences with any of their products.

I won't even get started on the Instinct ....that thing was a flop

Aren't there about 10 or so different tablets set to come out over the next few months?

This is definitely true for the time being. I played with an Asus Transformer for most of the past day and half here's what I came away thinking:

Full disclosure, I have an iPad, mac pro, macbook pro and countless apple products, but very much enjoy my Android phone so I think I'm pretty unbiased both ways....

Asus Transformer Review:

Cliffnotes: Best Android tablet on the market right now bar none. I hesitate to call it a tablet because with the keyboard dock option(150$ add-on) it's really for all intents and purposes a laptop. With crazy long battery life. And a touch-screen. Yes, the touchscreen still functions when the tablet is docked.

Pros:
- Versatility. Truly blends the line between tablet device and laptop. Could truly be an all-in-one type device for some consumers. With the keyboard dock it is essentially a netbook with a detachable touchscreen
- Expandability. Including the keyboard dock you get: HDMI out, 2 usb ports, 1 microSD slot for additional memory, 1 card reader and two headphone jacks.
- Battery life. Tablet alone is 9.5 hours, with the keyboard dock battery life is extended to 16 hours.
- Specs. The usual Tegra2 dual-core 1.0ghz, IPS 10-point touchscreen, 1gb Ram. 16gb on board storage. Flash support
- Android honeycomb 3.0 (and now 3.2). For some people this may be a minus, but I like Androids OS, and honeycomb is quite nice. Great notification system, live widgets look great, and true multi-tasking
- Cost. 399 Tablet + 150 keyboard dock = $550 total. Very competitive.

Cons:
- Hefty. Longer, heavier, and more unwieldy than my iPad2.
- Fit and finish. Hard to best apple products here. For the most part the Transformer is finished off nicely, albeit with a fair amount of hard plastic.
- Apps. There simply is not a whole lot of them out yet with the Android tablets playing catch up to the iPad.
- Honeycomb still not as polished as iOS. While I really like a lot of Honeycomb, it still isn't iOS and if that is what you are really after, it is not the same. Awfully close on a lot of levels but not the same. If you love your iphone and want to stay in a similar ecosystem you'd be happier with an iPad.

I still have my iPad2 and love it. I also have a macbook pro and love it. For my needs (Pro photo editing and graphic design), the transformer doesn't really give me anything I don't already have or need. It isn't powerful enough to be my laptop, and as strictly a tablet I feel the iPad2 is superior.

HOWEVER, if you are not a "power-user" and you are in the market for an all-in-one solution that can meet all of a lot of peoples computing needs, the transformer is a winner
