Default Nissan Adds a QR Code to All 2012 Nissans

Quote:
Nissan Adds a QR

QR (Quick Response) codes, those weird looking squares containing black hieroglyphics, are popping up everywhere. Youíll now find them on every new 2012 Nissan vehicle at local Nissan dealerships.

Nissan is the first OEM to place a QR code on individual window stickers. The codes are already on the 2012 Altima and 2012 Sentra models that have been in showrooms for the past couple of months. For the record, Porsche has also introduced a similar system, but it uses the Microsoft tag system to deliver its codes Ė just like the tags youíll also find in the pages of Road & Track magazine.

If you own a smartphone you may already have installed a QR code reader app. If so, all you have to do is open the app, point the camera at the QR code and within seconds itíll take you to Nissanís website where youíll find additional vehicle information including key features and available accessories, video based product overviews, an image gallery, incentive offers and dealer inventory. You can also request a quote and ask to be added to a mailing list.

If you donít yet have a QR code reader on your smartphone, there are dozens to choose from and most are free.

So.. when you're at the dealership you can scan the car you're looking at, on the list of it's features and price.... and find out about what features and prices it has AND look at 2D images?!

BRILLIANT!

This is not especially newsworthy.

^^^ keeping pace with the U.S. Government isn't exactly leading the way.

It's pretty common to use a QR code to launch a video when it's on a retail product. It's actually a pretty useful marketing technology.

I imagine it's directly related to the adoption of phones that can read them and do something with the information. Japan is a pretty dense market and they've had better mobile phones than us for many years.

At the place I work we're going to start putting them on the back of our business cards with encoded meCard data.
