Mitsubishi adding AWD Lancer SE

Official details and pricing information has not been released as of this writing, but Automotive News reports that the SE will sticker for approximately $20,000. Mitsubishi says that the SE should account for 15 to 20 percent of all Lancer sales.

Adding the SE trim to the Lancer lineup is part of Mitsubishi's plan to someday sell 100,000 units in the United States again. The last time Mitsubishi sold over 100,000 vehicles in this market was 2007, when sales totaled 128,993.

They should have done this along time ago instead of keeping it only for the Mighty Evo. Now, NA Impreza buyers can have a choice. NA engine with AWD for $20k is not too bad. NOw all they need is a marketing campaign. Whats makes a Lancer a Lancer?

As for Impreza fighter? Nah, not even close. More like an apprentice. They should learn from Subaru.

Although, I would prefer they come out with a brand new look instead of the current to complement the awd. This one is outdated.
I hope they prevail. I hate to see Mitsu gone.

+1 a bit too little to late. Sounds like a parts bin clear out. Between an Impreza and Lancer AWD, I'd go with the Impreza.

They stated the evo awd system will be use with the NA engine.So, lets see how it performs over the impreza. So far, I think the Evo awd is more superior but thats opinion.

It is Mitsubishi we're talking about here.Lets see what high tech surprises they come up with.

Thats the thing, the EVO has always been more electronically advanced then the Subaru's STi. the transmission was always more hi tech, and in laymans terms "better" for tracking. But what makes a subaru, as Subaru is honest to goodness basic engineering that isnt bad at all. and its much more fun to drive because you dont have video game like lock outs saying you cant do that....

Im still mad at Mitsu for canceling the ralliart...... which is basically an upgraded SE with a turbo motor and AWD.... i wonder how this new SE will take boosting..

Forget about the Ralliart or Evo, for now.
They need to focus on selling their NA Lancers and other cars in their lineup .
When the market/demand picks up then bring out the big guns.

There is a big difference between the AWD on the Lancer Evo and the Lancer Ralliart... This car will have the Ralliart version most likely, no AYC and possible no ACD.

The Ralliart uses a tuned down version of the evo 9 awd system.
The articles states that the new Lancer will use that. So Im guessing whatever is in the Ralliart, that is what we're getting. Ofcourse, we dont know the final specs yet. Anything can happen. Its just speculation for now.

True... I have always wondered why Mitsubishi did not release a normal turbo charged car to compete with the WRX.. It clearly has had the STI beat with the EVO... but for gaining market share with the masses, Mitsubishi feel asleep. Their CEO is a joke anyway.

Everyone believes the better the performance the better it will sell. This is clearly not the case. Consumers are willing to sacrifice performance for practicality and dependability. No one can tell the difference between S-AWC and symmetrical AWD going to Walmart, but they will realize how much groceries the STi had packed when leaving.

When I was car shopping the two cars I was tied up on was the impreza and the lancer. In the end I got the impreza (obviously) because AWD was a huge factor since I'm in the Northeast. It's about time though they gave the lancer AWD.

I was speaking from experience owning and driving both on a road course. Comparing the EVOX to the 2008 model. Additionally from a modification standpoint and bang for buck. That is just my opinion though.

I don't think it will be much of a fight against the new 2012 impreza. The new cvt imp gets better mileage than the fwd Lancer, the 5 speed is about the same as the fwd Lancer. It will probably have more room inside, too. This seems like a poorly timed entry for Mitsu.

The Ralliart is quite a good car, flawless double clutch trans and AWD, turbo is fast too. The seats suck as not Recaros and suspension soft.
