Default Next Hyundai Genesis to offer all-wheel-drive option

Quote:
Hyundai has just confirmed that the next generation Hyundai Genesis will receive an option for all-wheel drive, after seeing that nearly half of BMW sedans in the US are ordered with AWD.
“We do have a plan to fix that (the current lack of an AWD option for the Genesis sedan) with the next major model change,” said Hyundai’s CEO, John Krafcik.
Click here for more news on the Hyundai Genesis.
Additionally, since the new 5.0L V8-powered R-Spec model has just been released, a source within Hyundai said that the offering of two distinct V8s—the standard 4.6L and the top-end 5.0L—is an “unusual practice.” Hyundai has an initiative to simplify the number of buildable configurations, mostly to keep customers from getting confused, something that we’ve seen with other cars such as Volkswagen and Chevrolet.
It is unconfirmed, but the source said that the next generation’s Genesis may consolidate its V8 options by offering only a 5.0L Tau V8, but one that is detuned for the base V8 model and one that is the normal 5.0L Tau V8 found in the current Genesis R-Spec.

Throw in an automated gearbox, like Panamera's PDK... with the 5.0 Tau, and AWD... that would be very cool, if the next-gen Genesis is as handsome as the current one.

$10 the coupe doesn't get AWD; not with a V6 or 2.0T anyway.

I would tend to agree with that (not that I like it)... but it depends on how close to the sedan that the next-generation GenCoupe gets.

Supposedly the next GenCoupe will move closer to the Sedan's underpinnings, and market position, possibly to make way for the Kia RWD K9 and it's associated sport coupe.

With the hype over the Mustang GT re-gaining a 5.0 engine... I would place a very high likelyhood that the next ground-up upgrade for the GenCoupe will include enough engine bay real-estate for the Tau 5.0.

I would rate that a much higher probability than it getting the next-gen sedan's AWD option.

When someone gets tired of this Internet meme, call me.

Pretty decent if they offered it - wonder how their AWD stacks up? And what would the weight penalty be for their system?

Hyundai should figure out how to make Sonata go straight, then they can move on to more advanced things..

I really wish the genesis coupe and the sedan didn't share the name,
they are completely unrelated and I always get excited when I see news like this just to find out they are talking about the lamo sedan.

It reminds me of the G37 coupe/sedan; I'm not sure but if I guessed I'd say they weren't related. But, I hate the G37 and its garbage VQ.

Nope. It is gone for '12. The face-lifted 2012 A5/S5 has been revealed, and it is joining the S4 with the supercharged V6.

RS5 and R8 4.2 will probably continue with the 4.2 V8 and AWD, though, until they come out with a new engine. The 4.2 is a bit thirsty, and the 3.0T (supercharged, not turbo... but they kept the T in the badge) has similar or better outright performance due to the torque levels.

Next generation is supposed to be much more closely related, as the coupe is rumored to go up-market.

Kia has some products coming in under the Genesis price points, so the Coupe can move up and make way for little sister Kia.

I'm going to ask here since I've seen a bit more.. has the Genesis stopped using the Hyundai badge on the car? I only ask because I've seen at least two with the Genesis badge driven by some older folks.. looks classy

I do believe I read that Audi said the US model will keep the V8 for '12... The rest of the world moves to the SC V6.

Nobody questioned the BMW statement?

1/2 of all sedans? Seems high to me. Unless they mean "Of sedans that had to be ordered, 1/2 were ordered with AWD."

Had a 4.6 Gen sedan as a rental a few months back. The motor was great, the transmission and transient handling were not so great. City ride was piss poor. Supreme highway cruiser though.

There is a fair amount of take-rate of luxury sedans with AWD in northern states. BMW now offers it on the 550 when in the previous gen it was only on the I6's.

I was under the impression they carried the Genesis badge from the outset. Though it could been an option for the first model year, don't remember. There was stupid dealer markup in my area so I didn't shop for very long.
