Cool

Looks like my prediction powers are failing me! Oh well, Alex'll get them next time. Good job by da Matta though. Pretty boring race overall IMO. I hate that timed race crap too. They should definitely get rid of that rule.

glad to see Andretti put in a good performance for the new team. i think de-matta won because he is so small

out of curiosity, how long was the course. i am without TV and so haven't seen this course and was suprised when all but one of the finishers were on the lead lap.

10th Warrier - The circuit is 2.1-miles with 12-turns. I'm sorry to hear that you weren't able to watch it. It was an interesting circuit, but it suffered from being brand-new, so that the surface was very green, dirty, and it had fresh asphault which broke up during the race. The slipperiness prevented aggressive driving from paying off, as it was too hairy off-line.

Did anyone notice that the circuit was unusual, in that it was run counter-clockwise, (the same direction as an oval course)? Whereas most road courses are run clockwise.

MOTORSPORTS TRIVIA QUIZ -

Name two circuits on the F1 calendar which are also run counter-clockwise.

John - Good job! For claiming Suzuka as half counter-clockwise, you pick-up the bonus points as well. Please proceed to the lovely woman to your right to pick-up your prize!

Man, that track sucks There was absolutely no place to pass. It was like watching an F1 race (i.e., boring). And I'm a huge CART fan.

Have a Nice Day?

Actually there are 2.5 circuits that run counter clockwise.

Imola (San Marino GP) and Interlagos (Brazilian GP) are fully anticlockwise.

Suzuka (japanese GP) is half clockwise, half anti-clockwise.

I found the CART race boring as hell, i am a big CART fan but i found myself going to sleep watching it LIVE from the UK, so i did the right thing and went to bed!

Never done that before, even when watching an F1 race

Alex will be back, kicking ass soon, i have been a big fan of his since i saw him race an Esprit at Doninton Park in the wet years ago, awesome driver.

Lightbulb

I think one of the biggest reasons that it was so boring, is that the drivers were trying to just keep their cars on the track. They didn't want to really try anything to awful risky,(except Paul Tracy, Kenny Brack, and maybe Alex Zanardi) because the track was so green. They needed to have a couple of months of other cars racing on the surface before they had the CART cars.

I love CART racing, especially because there is always alot of action going on, but that race was pretty boring.
Oh well, I am sure they will get more exciting.

Well at least we are all in agreement that as far as CART races go, it was freaking boring. As bad as Detroit before they fixed the track to make more room for passing (it's still the worst race to see in person! Can't see a DAMN thing except what's in front of your grandstand). Now, thanks to the government down in Rio, we'll have to wait another 3 weeks to see another race, Long Beach. I would look for Al Unser Jr. to dominate.......Oh wait that's right, he's over in the "Wannabe's and Has-Been's" league! I guess we'll just have to watch Zanardi take it! I hope anyway. A damn Penske Reynard will probably win it though. I guess they are my early favorite to win it all this year. Probably Gil again. We'll have to see about da Matta though, he could be tough to beat if his car stays fast and dependable. I still think the Reynard/Honda combo is the car to beat. But of course it's way too early to tell. Who knows, maybe this is the year for Lola/Toyota. We shall see.....

Ummm... in case you didn't catch it, Paul Tracy didn't self destruct last year, and if it hadn't been for a blown motor in the last race of last year, he very well could have been champ.
As far as talent goes, there are alot of talented drivers in CART. de Matta is pretty talented, Andretti is a no brainer, Franchitti is great, Tracy has alot of natural ability. But did you hear that alot of the drivers are afraid of the Japanese fellow new this year? His name is Tora Takagi . Check out his stats, and the fact that he finished 10th, you might be looking at the surprise of the season.

SCRAPPYDO,
You need to get up to speed man. Newman/Haas is running Toyota power in those Lolas this year. It caught me off guard too. I was kind of stunned when I saw "Toyota" on the N/H cars Sunday.

Talking

I think you guys should watch Helio Castro Neves this year. I watched this young guy race in F3 in the UK and had the chance to chat with him in the pits after, he impressed me then and i knew he was going places. I think he could be the surprise of the year.

Others i think should do well are Dario Franchitti, Alex ( i really hope so ) and Paul Tracy.

Michael Andretti, i just never really rated this guy, dunno why but he does nowt for me. His dad though, now there was one hell of an amazing driver. I have an awesome video of him in the 72 sports car season driving for ferrari, its called Speed Merchants, buy this video, its superb.

I saw Mario drive at Le Mans in 95, i always wanted to see this guy race, its was awesome to be in the crowd below the podium gantry at the end of the race and see him taking a trophy.

I wonder if Mario is going to run the LeMans 24h again this year? Anyone know?
Michael drove F1 a few years back didn't he? I don't think he had any good results however. Can anyone correct me if I am wrong?

Well, I happen to think that da Mata was a hidden talent in CART last year, and look for him to do well if his Ford will stay together. I dont think it can.

But without a doubt the most talented driver in CART is Micheal Andretti. This is my opinion of course, but I look for Micheal to shine this year. I look for Paul Tracy to self destruct like he does every year due to his overly aggressive tactics combined with his lower level of natural talent and his lack of respect for the equipment.

Zanardi is a talent, at least he used to be. We will see what he is made of this year. I think that focus should be on the rookies. Look for K. Brack to really shine this year.

CART is going to be quite good this year... hold on to your hat, I will see some of you at Long beach!

Good eye on correcting me on that Toyota ford switchover... man that was subtle wasn't it!

I caught that last night when I was reading speedvisions websight. As for Takagi, well dont really know about him. He was so terrible in Formula 1. Even the anouncers breathed a sigh of relief when he crashed out of a race in fear of taking one of the 'competitors' out of the race. But you never know.. the talent level of formula 1 drivers is so much higher than CART, we will have to see.

As for the Paul Tracy comment. He was definitely in the mix last year I cant argue that with ya. But the guy is unstable. Heck , even the crew cheif at Penske said so during the race. Tracy has a tendency to be a "bully" of sorts. He sometimes gains positions by pushing other cars out of the way, he puts his nose where it does not belong... if he makes somebody spin out, well then oh well.... That is not clean racing. I mean look at the guys nose on his car after just about every race. It always has tire marks on it!

But opinions vary like everything else. To really sum it up, when Montoya and Andretti were racing around that oval last year it what must have been the closest and most exciting CART race that season, both had respect for one another, and put competition first and formost. Similiar track, Tracey clipped Andretti and sent both of them into the wall. He just does not care about anybody else on the track but himself. Even when his own crewmember got hurt in the pits, after the race at his inteview... all he could talk about was himself and how the car ran. He did not even mention his crewmember! Other drivers expressed more concern than he did!

If you recall in sport compact car magazine when they did a civic shootout. Tracy was the guest driver on the road coarse. He blew up every car but one, they werent even his cars! He HAS NO RESPECT FOR EQUIPMENT, thats could be why he blew up his engine last year, he just does not know how to conserve and drive a smart race.

As you can tell I am not a big Paul Tracy fan. But I am only one person, and my opinion is just that... my opinion. Does not mean more than a used Q-tip to anybody else by me <IMG SRC="http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/bigtongue.gif" border=0>
