Default opinions on PS2 games please

i am looking to buy a couple games during lunch today and was wondering what was good. i read good things about commando 2. i like all kinds of games, so lay it on me. i already have gt3, wrc, and madden. looking for a cool concept game maybe. the graphics for wipeout fusion look pretty cool.

Wipeout Fusion is fun but buggy and frustrating at times. Graphics are pretty good, but have their issues too (bad frame rate, draw-in, etc.).

I haven't had a chance to play Commandos 2, but it was pretty good on the PC. However, the console version is totally different, from what I've heard...

Mark of Kri, which I think is due out today, looks really good if you're into brawlers and hack and slash games

p.s. Buy an Xbox

My vote(s) go to Maximo, Devil May Cry, Knockout Kings, and Baldur's Gate.

Baldurs gate is terrific and highly addicting, Metal Gear Solid 2 is a must own, Grand Theft Auto is also a classic. Silent Hill 2 is amazing if your into resident evil style games. Game scared me silly for about a month straight.

Grand Theft Auto 3 is an absolute must have for the PS2.

Devil May Cry is a great renter, but a waste to buy. I took me about 8.5 hours to complete, way too quick. But it is a great game. The ONLY games I miss my PS2 for are GT3 and ICO. (There are about 12 games I miss for my Dreamcast, btw.) ICO is so fun, soooo much fun. It is kind of a, well, concept game, to use your words. You will dig it.

P.S. Get an Xbox

Personally I didn't like Metal Gear Solid 2 that much. Compared to the first it sucked. Not enough playing time. All these damn FMV scenes and crap. Rent this game first. Grand Theft Auto 3 is a great game. Probably the best game I have bought for a while.

State of Emergency is good if you like that type of game like GTA3. Running around a mall, and china town and one other area doing various missions for people. Plus some cool cheats. Punches decapitate is great.

Silent Hill 2 I have yet to really play. That game scares the crap out of me. I can't find the courage to play that game.

Those are the best that I can think of out of my collection. Need to expand it.

Wipeout Fusion is fun, nonetheless. Buggy? Not THAT buggy as you make it out to be. It's rare for me to get blown off the track. But that's what weapons can do.

PS. Stay away from the Xbox.

It's buggy enough... controller doesn't work right, certain sections of the track sometimes don't load in until the countdown to the race starting has begun. Then there's the bug about getting dropped on the wrong section of track after you go off-course. Also, in the sections that stick you to the ceiling, I'm constantly going right through the track when it bumps me back down again. Also, there's a number of walls that your ship can pass right through, sending you off-course...

The bugs don't kill the game, but they're damn annoying.

Did you get an early copy? Coz I don't have those problems. Maybe once every 50 races.

Man...that sucks. I remember I got a buggy copy of KnockOut Kings 2001. The game wouldn't even load 1 of 4 times! Take yours back, I say. Coz mine rarely messes up like that.

Anyway, PhyllyWRX, try out Ace Combat 4. Learning curve isn't that high and the game is INTENSE! It's a combat flight sim with a number of missions. You get to fly all kinds of planes like the Fulcrum, F-15 and even the YF-22!

here's my list of must have games...

1. gran turismo 3
2. grand theft auto 3 (and vice city when it comes out will probably be on this list too...)
3. fatal frame - if you want a freaky scary game, get this one. resident evil has nothing on this game. it will scare you.
4. castlevania : sotn for ps1 (if you don't already have it, get it!)
5. gauntlet: dark legacy - great party game, esp. with a multi-tap
6. super bust-a-move - i have a soft spot in my heart for this game.... ever since my days at the local arcade...
7. medal of honor - renter for sure, maybe a buyer. great game, but it's a little short.

that about does it for me for now.

I know that section! you gotta be exactly in the middle to get placed to the right track. Coz there are three track switchers there. The one in the middle puts you on the track, the other two are supposed to put you off the track! YOU SUCK AT WIPEOUT!

Whaa? I go RIGHT THROUGH THE TRACK, not off to the side.

And how can you tell me that I suck at wipeout, when you posted this morning saying you couldn't handle the upgraded ships?

another vote for Grand Theft Auto 3 and State of Emergency

my other favorites:
Spiderman (worth renting, although I bought it...it's a toss up)
FIFA 2002 (FIFA 2001 has more teams, but gameplay isn't as cool)
NBA Live or NCAA Football are also good sports choices

p.s. buy an Xbox, then return it once you beat Halo.

I don't think you understand. There are three of those things there. If you don't get the middle one, you'll be sent off the track.

And I can handle the upgraded ships.....just not like the way I did with WOXL. I got all golds in the League in just a Saturday and Sunday afternoon (probably 4 hours). It's not hard. My flight just wasn't as pretty as WOXL.

You are so full of it Snoopy I went back to that section of track thinking maybe you were right. I drove over it a dozen times at different angles and found it didn't matter which switcher I hit, sometimes I went through the track, sometimes I didn't. I specifically aimed for the side ones and didn't have a problem, and sometimes when I was right in the middle I went through the track... bug.

Oh, and sorry for stealing your thread, philly. Snoopy can't ever let me just post in peace!

GTA 3 is the best game out there. And I'm not into to that sort of game usually.

Baldur's Gate you'll like if you like Diablo style games, and it's really surprising how good the graphics are.

Hmm... maybe get SSX Tricky? SSX was good.

just curious - how many of you are getting disk read errors on dvd's, blue disk games, etc??? My started acting up about a month ago and I don't want to pay the $110 to get the laser replaced. Tried the tape trick, and that worked on a couple of games, but not the blue backed ones. F'ing Sony. I'd buy and x-box, but f'ing Microsoft!
